Bea flies the Big Sur coastby beafliesComment: Oh, lucky Bea! My favorite coastline in the world. I have spent so much time there, back in the day... Lovely shot. I haven't seen them all yet, but this may be a ribbon contender :-) |

Self Servingby brizmamaComment: Good God! A lot of effort went into this one, eh? Gives a new twist to the term "in your face"... |

Morning Lightby ArtifactsComment: I missed commenting on this one, Steve. Congrats on your 4th place with this nicely done rendition of ethereal light. I remember doing one similar in the redwoods thirty years ago, and how fine I felt when it actually came out the way I'd visualized it :-) |

Rough Skies, Smooth Seasby shaggy35Comment: Nicely done, shaggy! I was living in Cambridge while they were building this bridge, and it was fascinating to watch it go up. Come on down and check out the Cape some day :-) |

Moderate westerly.by fredandaudComment: Compositionally this is fascinating. Ignore the foreground elements, and the composition is basically symmetrical, centered subject and centered horizon. But it's really two sub-compositions, with the land/sea horizontally striated into thirds and the sky/lighthouse a bottom-weighted rectangle with the lighthouse centered horizontally. What makes the composition work, in the end, is the lighter clouds at the top, and usually that's a no-no, with images working best with the top darkened to contain the eye and redirect it into the center. But in this case the eye would stop dead at the lighthouse without the luminosity at the top, which causes us to swoop up, as it were.
Probably more than youw anted to hear :-) My only real complaint here is the purplish cast to the sky, which seems a little overdone, but it's not a big deal. Very strong image. |

Noir lips. Delicious.by PatmaniaComment: Great mood to this picture. Strange, rectangular shadow above the centered eye is a little distracting. DOF is just excellent. Shadow from the lower lip is distorting the otherwise-perfect lip shape a little bit. All in all, very effective. |

Before Sunriseby BugzeyeComment: The exact moment of sunrise, actually? :-) Really nice/strange sky. I wish there was a tad more detail on the water, half a stop or so... |
