untitledby smurfguyComment: You were robbed. IMO this is better than nearly all the images that finished above it. Most of them are "just another" closeup, seen 'em all before basically, but this is a powerful and involving image, it has great sense of place and atmosphere. |

Chicagoby c_rosneyComment: I remember remarking to myself how CLEAN this image is, when I first viewed it. Well done, and congrats on top 20! |

US Mailby StrikeslipComment: This is gorgeous, Slippy! HDRI used to positive advantage without being overtly unnatural. How sweet to see such a flawlessly (and apparently lovingly) glorification of such a mundane object. For me, this is by far the best of your images that I can recall seeing. It suggests a new maturity of vision, or it's at least a glimpse of a side of you that you have not often shared with us. Congrats on top-20! |

Whispers in the fogby LalliSigComment: It's quite liberating, isn't it, to open up and work the bad weather, the harsh times? That's what I prefer on the Cape, actually; winter over summer anytime for me, given the choice. And as a resident of the Carmel/Monterey area for 4 years in the late 70's, of necessity I came to love the sullen light of winter and how it transformed the landscape.
One gets that sense here. Nicely done! |

she's leaving home ...by ursulaComment: I'd never have pegged this as yours, Ursula. It's very well done, and I really appreciate the detailed notes on how you organized it. But you mention putting in the skyline in two different steps, so I am wondering if it's a typo in step 2?
Congrats on top-20! |

Tribute to "O Vento" by Wendell Penedoby JustinMComment: The Pinedo image immediately came to mind when I saw this entry, and I googled it to see how close they were. At first I was a tad annoyed at such blatant "copying", but then I did a reality check and said to myself, "Hey Ward, we DPCers copy EACH OTHER all the time, in the spirit of learning "how they did that", so why not do the same with an outside-DPC image?"
And you did it very well indeed, and I am delighted to see you crediting Pinedo in your notes. This is just the way it ought to be.
The Pinedo image has much more subtle modeling on the umbrellas, and I prefer that, but regardless this is a compelling image; congrats on your top-20! |

Framedby surfinbirdComment: I'm so glad to see this do so well! Terrific image, offbeat and appealing in an almost eerie way. |

The Deception Castleby gocComment: Aside from that this image is powerfully done, all the stuff people notice, let me say that I find the foreground vegetation to be particularly well-balanced in the overall composition, where many might have left it quite dark. It's a great anchor to the otherwise-symmetricality of the image as a whole. Beautiful! |
