The queby aKiwiComment: more shallow dof than bokeh to my eye; the out-of-focus elements are a continuation of a focused element. |

Flowerby WinterbergComment: Nice shot, but feels more shallow DOF than bokeh to me. |

Waiting For Santaby DamianComment: Marvelous protrait. The bokeh seems to be distracting me from the subject, tho, rather than entering into a dialogue with it. |

Bookendby mcmurmaComment: Nice bokeh, but the picture seems fairly blah to me. I'd liek to see better detail in the dark tones of the subject. |

Pipe Dreamsby maxjComment: Dark areas of subject getting lost. I wish the ice were sharper, or the water if that's what it is. Bokeh present but not especially effective to composition, more of a backdrop than an active element. I am scoring higher the ones where bokeh and subject are in an active dialogue with each other. |

oldnude.jpgby theodor38Comment: Another area where this really shines, and not mentioned by other commenters, is in the separation of the figure shadow areas from the background shadow areas. Way too often we see images where the subject blleds off indiscriminately into a dark background, where just the hint of separation would add immeasurably to the impact of the image.
This is a synamite shot. I have nothing else to add to what Frisca said so eloquently.

The Soloistby sbrandtComment: I'd liek it better if the foreground candle were sharp and strong. |

pine cone endsby camelotnorthComment: Has bokeh, but very busy-feeling, not pleasing to my eye. I don't know where to rest my eye. |
