while it is rusted, it is not particularily interesting. I think that the lighting is ok, and the angle at which you chose to shoot your subject is ok, but it's just not drawing me in and holding me there. I think it's pretty plain. While technically well done, just not exciting. ~Heather~

This is a beautiful colored rust. lol I think that your focus and clarity help to bring out texture in the links, and your lighting helps bring out color and texture. So you did a great job with both. I like how the subject fills the frame and I like the layout. Keeps my eyes moving around and lots to look at. overall a very nice shot of rust. ~Heather~

I'm loving the sky in this. Very nice day for taking photos. I really don't know what your B-700 is, so I guess this is like an abstract for me, but I'm thinking it's either an airplane or a car? Definately rusted, and your focus and clarity are really good to show the details of the rust. I like how the B-700 looks practically new among the rust. Good angle and framing/cropping. Love the object on that blue sky. ~Heather~

I think that this could have worked well in black and white. I don't think that the rust is strong enough to hold it's own without the color here. Also, your image seems a bit soft to me. The tonal range seems harsh. The light coming from the left side is stronger than on the left, which causes some washed out looking area on the left. I like the subject. Overall it's ok, but it's just not strong. ~Heather~

The colors in this shot are really muted and dull. Possible result of too bright of a light, or if you raised the brightness in a photo editing program, that would do it too. Your background is horribly tilted. Straighten that up. The sky is white and very blown out. Your subject definately contains rust, but I think that's all you have going for you. Even the focus is soft. I don't mean to sound harsh, but you should really take your time when shooting. Also, if you have a photo editing program, try upping the contrast and lessening the brightness. I think that could help a bit with the washed out color. Also, try upping the saturation slightly. ~Heather~

odd place for an iron elephant. lol. I like how well he stands out on the blue sky. very nice job picking day and time to shoot this elephant. focus and clarity are good, and I like the placement of the subject within the photo. did you try different angles or placements? I wonder how this would look with a slight boost of saturation? something to try anyway. I like it. ~Heather~

Strange place for a bolt. Definately rusty. I think that the DOF is good, and it works for the shot. I like the different colors of rust, and the texture as well. were you able to take different angles of this? head on, dead center seems less interesting that a dramatic angle, but sometimes its just not possible. would like to at least see it as an option though. lighting seems good, and overall interesting rust. ~Heather~

Very nice find. You know what I wish though? I wish that you could desaturate all but the inside of the umbrella. This would be a perfect example of that technique I think. The only problem would be the orange thing on the right side of the photo, which I find distracting to the umbrella. I do realize that it's rusty too, and adds to the rustness of the photo, but I just think it takes away from this beautiful find. Rusty, and interesting. Congrats. Focus and clarity are really good and I like the placement of the subject as well. Slightly close crop on the left side, kind of nipped off one of the corners of the umbrella. What would something like this be used for? Strange indeed. ~Heather~

I think that this may have been a good idea for the challenge, but a few things are keeping this from being a good image, in my opinion. first off, the focus seems to be off on the entire image. I can't really find a strong sharp focus, and soft focus doesn't work here. I'm thinking a few things happened with that. First off, see the bottom of the chain on the left side? It looks like some motion blurr there. Which could be the same reason that the rest of the image looks soft. Low lighting or camera shake can both be reasons for this. Since the background seems darker, and there are dark shadows, I'm guess that lighting was the main problem here. Second, the rings are way too distracting in the shot. I don't really like the shadows, they seem kind of 'snapshotty'. I guess it just doesn't look like you nurtured your photo, add a bit of lighting, maybe try a tripod to reduce camera shake, and clean up the photo. The rings are cluttering. While there is nothing wrong with the imperfections in the skin, I do find that they draw attention away from the rusty chains which are really suposed to be the subject here. So, while I like the idea, I think that this feels rushed, and snapshotty. Sorry to be long winded...hope this helps some. ~Heather~

definately rusty, however, the subject is not drawing me in. To quote Simon from American Idot "boring". I don't like the way the subject is dead center in the photo. not even a dramatic angle, or a close up. the background is alright, although really grainy, there is nothing distracting in the background. focus and clarity are alright, and lighting seems to be good for the photo. Did you try to up the saturation? I think that may help to bring out some added color in the reds of the rust. just a suggestion. ~Heather~
