| 08/17/2002 10:46:00 AM | Coupon Treeby hokieComment: this is cute. I like the creative idea! The focus is great and the lighting is good. there is a slight bit of a bright reflection on a couple of the "coupons" but nothing too distracting. Great creativeness. Good luck with the challenge. |
| 08/15/2002 02:41:00 AM | Back to Schoolby KimblyComment: At first, I looked at this and I was like...woohoo, a pile of new pencils. And then I noticed the blank lined paper there at the bottom and that made all the difference to me. Not sure why, cause usually I associate paper with a sharpened pencil, ready to write with. Maybe you could have tried to stagger them so you threw in some of the erasser ends too, but not sure how that would look in the way of appealing either. When the new challenge was announced that we were supposed to take pictures of pencils this week...the comments made were that it would be very boring, and visually uninteresting. This isn't the case with your photo. JUST a pile of pencils might have been pretty lame, but like I said, the paper makes all the difference. Great job on making something generally uninteresting look interesting. Good luck with the challenge. |
| 08/13/2002 10:56:00 PM | Newly Pickedby EizlAwComment: I'm not usually very impressed with photos of flowers, however it's the color that draws me to this one. It's a LITTLE dark on the right side, but I think that was probably not avoidable due to the lighting. If it were possible to lighten it up a bit, you could try that but ONLY if it didn't take away from the beautiful color. I think the color is more important. Very nice! Congrats and good luck in the challenge. |
| 08/16/2002 09:47:00 PM | The Début of Miss Daisyby ninaullerComment: I read in a tutorial that if you can't get it centered exactly, to not center it, but to use the rule of thirds. I think that may make this more visually interesting. The clarity is great, and I like how it stands out from the background. Some people are probably going to say it's too "OOF" in the background but I personally like it exactly how it is. The title is very orriginal, I like it. A lot better than "New flower" lol. I wonder if it were open just a little bit more, if it may have a bit more color, in contrast to all the green. Great job with your photo. Good luck with the challenge. |
| 08/18/2002 04:25:00 PM | New Growthby sulamkComment: This definately meets the challenge. I will say that it's not very visually appealing, however I really appreciate that it's not another photo of a flower. Commenting on many more of those, and I may end up going insane. lol. I love the angle, and the lighting is great. Maybe for visual effect, you could throw some leaves in the background. You did a great job capturing this subject. Good luck with the challenge. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 08/18/2002 12:50:00 PM | A new stage in a Metamorphosisby MaYzComment: A bit of technical trivia...The tomato horn worm, is the larvae of the hawk moth. He will live his life in this form only to later spiral himself into the ground like a screw and pupate or chrysalise into an adult moth. That's where it all begins again with the moth laying more larvae. The "tomato worm" grows up eating one type of leaf, and if that specific leaf is taken away, they will starve to death rather than eat different kinds of leaves. Metamorphosis is simply defined as a change in form. Your photo is beautiful. The lighting is excelent and the background is pleasing to look at. Focus is nice, I like the detail of his pattern. I love the originality. there are quite a few pics of the tomato this week, like how you used the tomato worm instead. I fear that people wont understand your "something new", that's why I included the brief history lesson. This IS in fact, a baby hawk moth. So I definately see the something new here. Don't get discouraged if other people don't see it. Very nice. Good luck with the challenge. |
| 08/12/2002 04:40:00 PM | NU4YOUby focusComment: not real sure what's in the reflection up there (other than the light post) but I think that it would be really cool if you could have gotten a clear reflection of the actual car sales building on the truck. Also, (and I know this is REAL picky) but it looks like the photo was taken at an angle and I realize that this was probably to get the 0.0% into the pic, but my head tips to the right when I look at the licence plate. Since the plate seems to be the main focus, maybe tilting the pic a small bit to the left would straighten it up and still allow for the 0.0% to be clear. Congrats on the pic and good luck!!! |
| 08/16/2002 11:59:00 PM | New chance at lifeby notashamdComment: The title "new CHANCE at life" makes it sound like this little guy has had a brush with death. He's definately new though. His forehead looks like it was brightened a bit too mch. The white on his chest looks about right. I'm sitting here thinking though, that if his forehead was darker, then the rest of him might look too dark. I'm not sure what could have done here to even it out. Maybe someone that has perfected a photo editing program and or flash and lighting usage could make a suggestion, I am in no place to even try to correct it, as could have done no better myself. I made the statement only as an observation, and not a criticizm. I think you have done a great job with the photo. Good luck in the challenge. |
| 08/12/2002 01:36:00 AM | Youthful Heroismby coeurdusucreComment: I have to apologize, I don't get it. Maybe you'd have to be there when it happened to understand. I've got a week to figure it out. I'll keep trying. |
| 08/17/2002 02:49:00 PM | Changing Out the Soapby shortredneckComment: Well, there is definate reference to somthing new in this picture. The lighting is good. I'm not quite sure how visually appealing this is, but that's just an opinion. Definatly origional, I'll give it that. I like the humorous approach. Good luck with the challange. |
