For neg. space to work, by definition, there needs to be a subject, and the space that is not used up by the subject is the neg. space. I do see what you are trying to convey here...the room is empty, leaving space. However, empty space in a room, and negetive space in a photo are not really the same thing. I believe this challenge was aimed toward people who have art or photography background, and I will not hold it against you..so...challenge met. That being said, I like the use of the reflection in the window. The photo is a bit dark for my taste, however I do like the addition of the light to the left. The angle and framing are good, and the focus and clarity also are good. Overall, the photo it's self is very nice. Good luck in the challenge. ~hbunch7187~ |
| 09/16/2002 06:10:00 PM | lamp on the white wallby prkembyComment: OK. The subject (as stated in the title) is the light on the wall. That would make the neg. space the darkness then. right? I like the 3 lines of light on the wall toward the bottom middle of the photo. The angle and framing are good. clarity is also good. the lighting is what makes this photo what it is! overall nice job. good luck in the challenge. ~hbunch7187~ |

The duck looks like it is swimming in a body of water that is overgrown with algea. maybe it's a real duck, maybe it's not, but does it matter? personally, I like it. great use of neg. space. good luck in the challenge. ~hbunch7187~ | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 09/16/2002 03:39:00 PM | oops!by GinaRothfelsComment: Cute. I like the reflections of the sprinkles and the statue in the "floor". The "negative space" here definately brings out the subjects. Really makes them stand out of the photo. The lighting is very nice, and the focus and clarity are good. I like the angle and framing also. Good luck in the challenge. ~Hbunch7187~ |

| 09/22/2002 11:27:00 PM | Running Outby Gene L.Comment: really cool. you did a good job of capturing the glass on the black background. something I have yet to do nicely. use of neg. space is clear, and used well. I like the composition, and even without the title, this photo stands nicely on it's own. Great job. good luck in the challenge. ~hbunch7187~ |
| 09/16/2002 06:17:00 PM | Romantic spotby habesComment: I assume that the people are the subject here, and everything else is the neg. space. The surroundings are beautiful. You should correct the left tilt in the horizon however. The lighting is very nice for the mood of this photo. The sky is beautiful. The angle and framing, other than the slight tilt, are great. The focus seems a bit soft for my taste. almost hard to see that there are 2 people there. Overall good photo. Good luck in the challenge. 6 ~hbunch7187~ |
| 09/18/2002 03:38:00 PM | Firesideby inspzilComment: definately got some neg space, however the subject its self almost blends in with the neg space, not really jumping out at us. I think it might have a higher visual impact if the neg space wasn't cluttered to the left. however, being a night/dark shot you did a great job. my camera would have pooped out and left colored speckles all over the place. lol. the angle and framing are very nice, and the clarity is good. Overall nice photo. Good luck in the challenge. 5 ~hbunch7187~ | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 09/16/2002 03:46:00 PM | A kids worse Nightmareby Shadow EagleComment: Are those the black jelly beans? my favorite!! I think I would have liked this if the "negative space" took up the entire rest of the photo. As it is, you kind of have 2 negative spaces. Using the just the beans as the subject, the plate could be the neg. space. If you included the plate as the subject, then the table would be the neg. space. I do understand that you meant the beans as the subject and the plate as the neg space. But then you have this 3rd space that really has no purpose. I hope that makes sense. Overall, I think you did a good job. The lighting is ok, the angle is ok, and the focus is also ok. Good luck in the challenge. 5 ~Hbunch7187~ |
