I haven't seen the version before you adjusted contrast, but it is definitely overdone now :). You have to be very careful with contrast adjustments, I learned the hard way to simply stay away from the contrast slider. Tweaking levels or curves usually (always, if you know how to operate them :) gives much better results. The most serious problem of this shot now is the oversaturated red channel, so the texture of the flower petals is obliterated. Maybe it happened when you boosted the contrast, or maybe it was like this from the start, I don't know. Even if the latter. if the original is in RAW you may try to salvage this by partially desaturating it before conversion to JPEG.

i hope you don't mind my blabbering Courtney, I am just trying to help... and thank you for your comment! :)

thanks for the comment! actually this is not the sun - it is a light on the roof of this little shack, the shot was taken about an hour after sunset (there is a hint to that in the title :). I think it is sufficiently sharp, it just feels soft because of the long exposure of the moving water. my favorite part of it is the people, especially the one on the right who lifted his arms up half-way through the exposure (or perhaps brought them down, now there is no way to tell :).

fantastic capture, and the "retro" processing suits the shot so well!

hey I know this photo! :) it's still very good, but it is one of those (relatively rare) cases when I think it is better left in color. In the color version the contrast between the blackened sculpture and the surrounding is much more stark. JMO, of course.

stunning image, mark! but the previous poster has a point, you should try to lighten up mountains on the right and treetops on the left, then it will be just perfect.

Magen, congrats on your first ribbon! Here is to many more to come! Unlike my shot, I like your version better than the original.

very good portrait, Shannon! I think I would crop about an inch off the top, so the eyes are a little higher in the frame, and "closer" to me.

fantastic landscape, very painterly! But with all due respect to Ella May, I think it would actually look even better without her in the frame, and cropped somewhat at the bottom...
