AAiieeehhh! I'm trapped! :) My eyes immediately went to the bolt on the left, then to the right, travelled back across the grass - repeat, over and over. :P

I like the slight diagonal line formed by the cement base. Keeps the image from getting too static for the subject. The late/early day sun casts enough shadow to add that needed contrast boost and depth.

Nicely seen and captured. :)

I need to find some of these! This photo has a classic feel to it, taken by someone with an artistic eye. My only observation for possible improvement would have been to stop down some for a deeper DOF to include detail for the entire flower (fading a bit towards the back).

Well seen and captured!

Sweet capturing that starburst on the light, and at F5.6? Very nice.

Wonderfully balanced composition. Pleasing to look at, simple enough not to wander.

I like it! :D

He-he. One of my past subjects here as well. :) I do a little woodworking on the side, but I'll spare you the image thumbs this time. :P

I like the color tone you've selected for an antique type feel. Including the wood shavings in the composition is a good move to add context. Only thing I might have done differently is in the arrangement of the background. If possible I'd have tried to have a continuous piece of material run from the planer all the way out to the edge of the photo frame.

Overall, nicely done.

This is certainly an interesting place. I imagine there are numerous photo op's here if it's close to home.

My first impression when I opened this is it's dark and a bit dreary. Not sure if it was really that overcast or if the photo is just underexposed...

What focal length of your 100-400 did you use? Sometimes in trying to tell a story with a photo it's easy to try and take too much in with the composition. If you had range left you could isolate some of the interesting features of this location and go for some tighter comps.

Anything there to stand on? The top of the water tank is blending with the roof line. A slight change to your POV could help make it stand out more (either higher or lower).

Can you get closer to that fence? Maybe include some foreground grass of interest with the building in the background?

All JMO of course. :D

Regarding the border...

I think there's a tutorial on that subject here on DPC. Yep...just looked. ==> Borders and Text

Sometimes I'll do it this way; finish the image work, resize to 620, border 1px white, border 9px black. Now I'm at 640 for challenge entry.

Anyway. Enough babbling on my part. Smile and keep having fun! :)

Nice grab - cheater. :P He-he.

This is a wonderful image! The tonal range, the composition, lighting...everything. The reflection of the person on the wet sand is a cool bonus. Great shot.

Is the photographer in the image related to you? Would make a nice print for the wall or the family album. Heck, probably some stock opportunities here as well.

Your story hit home and made me laugh. I can relate 110%! :)

This is a very nice photo. Light and shadows are fun to capture and you've exposed this just right. Very good detail and focus on the boy with a nice gleam in his eye. I also like that you were able to get this with him still looking elsewhere - not always an easy thing to do once they know the camera is directed their way. :P

Are you shooting in RAW mode? Try adjusting the color balance on this a little to warm it up a smidge. There's a fairly healthy blue tint in it (must have been a cloudy day, or in the shade?).
