Openings by NeatComment: I'd like to say this is possibly Rich's entry, but the sharpening seems a bit more than his usual. The subject matter definitely fits! |

Mesa Verdeby jcarComment: Oh, I'm SO kicking myself! I have a pile of images from this location and totally forgot. Grr. So, yes, I like your take on this challenge. Nice capture. :-) |

Crayon_IMG_0608-DPC-bluby GeneralEComment: Hmm. Yeah, not quite what I envisioned. You're right, the voters would have probably torn this up. You are pretty good at these conversions though. :-) |

Doing one's best to maintain the facadeby markwileyComment: This image takes a little time to absorb. There is so much to see once you fall into the frame and take in the surroundings. The image is so still and silent! Kind of like a look back in time, or a time in the future when there's noting left but the buildings and material things - no people to be seen. No cars, no bikes ... just concrete, steel, and remnants of some past.
A timeless piece in B&W. Well done. |

anklesby streetpigeonComment: Ok. You've sent me on a 10 minute journey into the Google land of "ankles of the tree". I assumed that the use of the word "Ankle" in your title was some reference to another nickname for this part of the tree that was left behind. And, BTW, I've seen many leftover stumps like this on our own property, so it was a familiar site, but that phrase! Killing me.
So, the most interesting find in the Google search "ankles of the tree" produced a punk rock band 'Snapped Ankles'.

As for the fit of this to the challenge theme, it fits pretty well IMO. The image also fits well for your style of photography. I noticed that your last 10 portfolio images are very strong on lines and patterns. Same hold true with some of your recent challenge entries, although not quite as strong a presence.
This was a fun exercise. I'm diving into some portfolios as a payback for comments received recently to an image I posted in the forums.
Have a great day! |

Pick Me, Pick ME!by GeneralEComment: The silver bullet! :-) One thing I'm noticing as I peruse some of your images (challenge entries) is your creative use of titles. You're a master at it!
I find this image amusing as normally most people would put the pointy end of the crayon up, which you've done / eluded to with the other crayons in the container. Yet you've given us the opposite end. Ha!
Wondering what this looks like in B&W. Seems well suited for it with the contrast and grainy feel. You'd still know the color of the main subject as, after all, it does say 'silver' on the side. :-P |

Bear's Lair (and Penny's too)by Bear_MusicComment: Looks like you have some construction going on next door? Perhaps a prior place of business that is either being renovated or torn down for something else? The connections to the main road distant is what leads me to think this.
Too bad you couldn't have Penny waving from that skylight at the front of your house. :-D Probably need a pretty tall ladder to do that I'd imagine. |

EM107163 1200by Yo_SpiffComment: Yeah, this is a strong image but not as strong as your entry. The curve adds some mystery that this one doesn't have. Still, nice work on both. Really like the processing and overall tone and feel. |

characters and syllablesby mariucaComment: Making a few portfolio visits this evening and thought I'd drop in and check out this image. It's an interesting take on the challenge theme. I see where you went with it and after spending a little more time with it I'm finding a few "hmmm's" in there. I get the symbols reference without a question ... looks like far eastern symbols / writing. One of the interesting items is how those 'symbols' were created? Glass breakage? If yes, then how come the top row of windows don't look broken? Those seem like the pattern is more like frost on a window. Could be the POV ... don't know. The tree ... well, yes, it's a tree and it breaks the pattern. Not quite sure if I like the interruption or not. :-\ Fun choice for the challenge. Look forward to seeing what else you come up with. :-) |

Continuationby Yo_SpiffComment: Wow. Nobody has stopped by to comment on this? I'm visiting a few portfolios and thought I'd drop in on this image. I was one of your above average votes on this. I'm a fan of leading lines and like what you've found and captured here. You know what would have REALLY put this over the top for me and garnered a vote of 8 or 9, is a person or object of interest at the tail end of the curve. :-) |
