That's fun having macro mode as an option on your camera. I was looking for the same on my HX-80 this weekend (no luck). Looks like it works pretty well. The length of your 'bug' challenged the DOF a bit but the up-front area looks tack sharp.

This was a tough choice on where to go with DOF. If you had attempted to go all in and get everything in focus it would have been a challenge (maybe back up, crank the aperture down a bit, then crop?). However, then your backdrop and area that the apples are sitting on would have been distracting (looks wet and maybe a bit dirty). I think the shallow DOF works fine and perhaps if the front stem had been the key focal plane it would have helped the overall presentation?

Just thinking out loud ...

Looks like you just stumbled a smidge on your way in the door. :-D This, as a background, could probably be the base for some very interesting blurry images. Some of my favorite (back in the day) toys in there. Played percussion, keyboards, and guitar at one point. Still have some around the house for "someday, when I get the time".
