Very nice shot. Composition and mood in this photo are stunning. One little tiny nitpick would be about the glowing areas in the clouds around some of the mountains, (I'm guessing) caused by burning of the clouds with a soft edge and not getting too close to the mountains. Try masking out the mountains, tracing the edges with a small hard edge brush to get all the edge details. This will let you burn right up to the mountains and not leave a glow around them. -Just one small thing in a really beautiful shot.

Semper Fi. Nice composition here, but maybe just a tad wider to include the deck crew guy in yellow on the left. The prop rotation blur really adds to effect of the photo. Nice job!

I'm suprised as well this ended up where it did. Nice vintage feel to the photo with the processing. One thing that I see is you have 2 subjects here that compete with each other. Given the title, I would say the lighthouse is the subject, but that tree is so overpowering and interesting that I want to look at that more than the lighthouse, but then I go back to the lighthouse and I don't know where to finally settle my eyes on.

Granted, I don't know the location, but maybe a few steps back and a couple to the left would make full use out of this interesting composition and full frame aspect ratio, so that the tree isn't so tall and the lighthouse is more prominent. I hope that makes sense. As it is, maybe a crop to a 1.25/1 aspect to get rid of some of that empty space on the left would make it a little more appealing to some.

Edit: just noticed how long my comment was, sorry if I babbled there.

Ha! This thing only does 8 mph, 9 with a strong tail wind. Next year I might step him up to a 50cc and see how he does. :-)

The simplicity of this shot is awesome. Your use of primary colors and centered composition/square crop is excellent. Very creative, nice job!

Thanks, and you're exactly right about the quality/sharpening. I think it's at 57% quality and lightly sharpened and still 255KB file size (kind of strange, I guess with all the tiny details in there, I dunno), so I needed to sacrifice quality for size.

It's too bad the star trails were the size they were. it's probably what hurt the shot as they are too short and look more like blur than trails. A 5 minute exposure probably would have made this a winning shot!

Thanks Doc! I totally agree, the stars were not enough to be trails, yet too much to be plain old stars. Just somewhere in limbo between the two.
