Adding my comment from the thread regarding this image. I think the restraint of this image is touching, and the variable focus perfect. The post technique also has a light touch. Not sure I understand the comment about lack of whites. I wonder what the sentiment would have been had there been white in the form of blown highlights. :) I prefer images like this that are understated, and make you ask, "What's this about?" Great photograph.

I really like the old-world feel to this in addition to the composition, and scored it accordingly. BTW, I also live in the Folly Beach area and immediately recognized the lighthouse.

I think you are right that voters are looking for an immediate 'wow' and many passed this by without appreciating its artistic strengths.

I'm suprised as well this ended up where it did. Nice vintage feel to the photo with the processing. One thing that I see is you have 2 subjects here that compete with each other. Given the title, I would say the lighthouse is the subject, but that tree is so overpowering and interesting that I want to look at that more than the lighthouse, but then I go back to the lighthouse and I don't know where to finally settle my eyes on.

Granted, I don't know the location, but maybe a few steps back and a couple to the left would make full use out of this interesting composition and full frame aspect ratio, so that the tree isn't so tall and the lighthouse is more prominent. I hope that makes sense. As it is, maybe a crop to a 1.25/1 aspect to get rid of some of that empty space on the left would make it a little more appealing to some.

Edit: just noticed how long my comment was, sorry if I babbled there.

First impression = interesting. Lighthouse to tree to lighthouse, I like it.

Too Grainy IMO, but I like the Composition

I'm assuming the grain is intentional, but it probably won't be well received here. Not that that should stop you from using it. I like the composition here quite a lot, but the focus seems a little off - almost as if you've taken a photo of an old image and it hasn't worked all that well.

What a very nice edit you have here. Should be in a museum somewhere.

The grain works here. It gives the shot a vintage look.

Maybe I am not clever enough to understand you title. Nevertheless a good photo. What are the patches (dirt) at both top corners ?? 6
