I can't believe this won a ribbon. It's well composed (nice tight crop), well exposed, sharp, and definitely meets the challenge, but it's just kind of ugly, IMO. Not ribbon material, in my book. Sorry... just my opinion. Obviously the voters/commenters disagree with me.

Creative. I thought you might enter something with circular OOF points :) You are definitely a macro master, and you're on my short list of favorite photographers. But what bothers me about this shot is the lighting on the spoon and table. IMO, it is too harsh. Many areas are "blown" to pure white. Although, of course, there's nothing necessarily wrong with that, it just isn't working for me on this shot. Personally, I would have used a more diffused light and taken care not to blow highlights. I think that would have given the shot a more pleasing, gentler feel (not to mention a more "professional", DPChallenge-voter-pleasing look!) But that's just me :)

Hey! I know what this is! I like the effect you got towards the top of the photo. I think I would have titled it something like "Wormhole" or "Alien Invasion". It looks like the people are about to be sucked up into the hole.
