The color seems "offish". A bit too blue (possibly a WB issue). The highlights are blown out and the focus seems a little soft. Image has a lot more potential with a few minor adjustments in post-processing. I'm not a big fan of the border either.

Nice use of DOF. I love the expression and the way you've captured the dandelion "petals" mid-air.

Interesting concept, but I feel it would have much more "punch" if you had at least one person sitting in one of the chairs. Also would suggest drying the chairs before taking the picture. As it stands , the only thing this image conveys IMHO is.... The chairs are wet and nobody wants a wet butt, that's why they're empty

I'm missing the reference, the highlights too blown out and the image is overall blurry.

I like the use of B/W and the expression is good also, it's just too blurry for my taste.

Initial Impression: I'm not qualified to critique this shot.

Detailed analysis: Joey, you have to know this is a spectacular shot and a well deserved ribbon. Your talent stretches well above and beyond my own and I'm twice your age! Your comments just further prove your creativity and ability to make the most of a situation.

Since this is supposed to be a critique, I'll give it my best shot... here goes.

The composition is spot on and I love the dramatic lighting. Your light position helps draw attention to the fog and casts very strong shadows on your profile to give a very dark and mysterious feel. There were comments on the patch of green grass, but personally I like it. It adds to the MIB realism... On a surreal, mysterious case in a very real environment. The polka dots on the tie don't exactly fit, but it's a detail that becomes lost in the otherwise flawless execution.

Overall Impression: Excellent shot, well thought out and executed. Well deserved ribbon!

I normally end my critiques here, but I wanted to add a side note in your case. When I first became more active in DPC, there was much talk about this young prodigy with a very "grunge" look. After a while your "style" became very obvious and I also noticed that many were trying to mimic the style. It's nice to see that lately you seem to have evolved to shoot images that are "outside" of your proverbial box. This image, although dark, contains none of the trademark "Joey grunge" and your destinations ribbon winner is incredibly colorful. I'm not sure if this is the beginning of some type of transition in your life, but it is very refreshing to see you evolve and develop as a very talented artist. As you continue to develop and grow as a photographer and videographer, I wish you great success.

Initial Impression: Funny image that falls a little flat.

Detailed analysis: Although this image does meet the challenge very well IMHO, there are a couple of things that could help it do better. As the others stated, the lighting is a little flat. It appears as though it was raining at the time you took this photo which could account for the flat lighting (overcast skies). I think you could probably adjust the hue/saturation and contrast to help add more interest. The position of the crow in relation to the pelican on the right is rather unfortunate. It almost appears as if there is something wrong with the pelicans head. The crow is not very obvious. A slightly different angle would probably eliminate this particular problem and help better differentiate the three birds. I love the title and your explanation of the situation in the comments.

Overall Impression: Pretty good shot that needs some minor tweaking. A little more patience in the composition and some post-processing would help this a lot.

Initial Impression: An good shot, but something seems a little off.

Detailed analysis: I love the colors of this shot, but there is something about it that I can't quite put my finger on. I think the perspective seems a bit offish. It could be the irregularity of the chairs. I think maybe cropping out the nearest section of chairs could help. The seatbacks of the section your model is sitting in break up the image too much IMHO. I also can't help but wonder what it would look like with more "red" in front of the model and less behind her. I would also like to see versions taken from the side and from in front from a low perspective to include a lot of the red (as you have done from behind).

Overall Impression: Pretty good shot but the blurry chairs in the foreground are a bit distracting. With a slightly different perspective and/or cropping could grab a ribbon.
