An appealing image that meets the challenge well
What distinctive birds these are with their spoon shaped bills, hence the name. As a record documentary image this fits the bill (excuse the pun) and also meets the challenge with its reflection. There are a couple of things I’m not so keen on, its a tad overexposed there is a lack of detail around the head and shoulders and the other is the plastic pipe that just serves to emphasise that this is a captive bird. Given the challenge brief I would have cropped this image just above his feet omitting the ring, thus serving to emphasise the reflection and eliminating the problems I have mentioned and making it a more natural looking environment. |

I like your creative and original approach to the challenge Marcel. The composition and timing is good with appropriate title and placing of the runner. The positioning of the chair itself although a little bizarre makes for a unique idea, however, I find myself concentrating far more than I should on the pattern of the spokes wondering why they are there and how they have been created and why the yellow of the road marking in them is so dominant? Its draw is so strong that it overpowers my enjoyment of the rest of the image, sorry. |

Wow, that is one evil looking feline! The backdrop of the chair only adds to her sinister atmosphere. The lighting works really well, you did a good job here Susan, well done.
P.S. I had to look up Cersei Lannister, glad I did! |

An unusual image that contributes to the open challenge
An interesting idea that works to a degree. Whilst I would normally prefer mono, I suspect that this a very colourful character? There are two very distracting elements that spoil it for me, the main one being the background character that interferes with the main character in such a way that it detracts from what would have been a very strong figure. The other is the crop, the figure at the top should have been removed completely, again it detracts… |

An unusual image that contributes to the open challenge
Welcome to DPC! Your entry is commendable for its uniqueness but their are some technical problems with it. The lighting is too severe causing dense hard shadows that obscure what is probably interesting detail on the board. I think you probably missed a great opportunity to take a very different image from eye level with the die excluding the left where the dark shadows are concentrating more on the shapes and translucent effects the lighting has on the dice themselves…? |

What a fascinating scene, well seen and captured Joanna. Technically, I think your focus could have been improved bringing it closer to capture their feelers sharper as opposed to the leaf itself, this would also have rendered the eggs a little softer but still clearly identifiable for what they are. Its still a great shot, well done Joanna. |

A great viewpoint that makes for an interesting and dynamic scene. My first reaction was not too positive feeling that it was over-processed and that is somewhat still my feeling, however, the more I look at it the more it grows on me. I am enjoying the immediate foreground seas the most, in fact, if I crop it just below the upper background structure I feel it makes it a far stronger image, I’d be interested in your thoughts…? |

An appealing image that meets the challenge fully and very creatively
What a talented lady you are! This is an absolutely superb and original idea, well I’ve never heard of it before, and it’s so well executed too, I really like it. Yes, you’re right I am weird but I really enjoyed your notes and, mum’s the word, your dangled participle is safe with me! You have my respect and congratulations for your well deserved score and high finish |

What an interesting mix of colourful birds you have captured Susan. The bright red bird on the right is particularly engaging which is in contrast to the other two birds whose position and focus I feel is somewhat marring the end result to the detriment of that gorgeous bird. Thank you for your notes because this helps to see the image in the way you saw it but unfortunately your voters would not have had that same luxury… |

I’m so envious Janine, it must have been a wonderful spectacle to experience. You have certainly got to grips with the technical difficulties associated with such a shot, well done. The tones and spread of the corona are very appealing, they make the image work superbly. |
