An appealing image that meets the challenge well
This is a technique I have used myself, it's very satisfying when it works, and this works really well. The composition and timing are impeccable, the size of the two people offset each other very nicely you have ended up with a very nicely balanced image. The ghostliness of the foreground figure adds a really nice mysteriousness to it all. For me this is an image that has it all, I love it, well done Harrison |

Congratulations on the high score and placing Gaylord, having briefly looked at your profile, long overdue I would say. As your commenters have already stated this is a lovely image, you started off with a great composition and what a lucky moment for the starlings to add the finishing touch, hope you paid them well! The lighting is lovely the sun defining the rails and glowing on the fog adds a surreal quality. Beautifully done, I hope its hanging on your wall... |

Congratulations for the HM Anton. The subject is most appropriate, derelict, abandoned and very weathered it fulfils the challenge brief well. You have added atmosphere to it with your post-processing of the surroundings. However, selection inaccuracies have made it rather too obvious for me to disregard it, which is rather a shame given the nature of the original study. |

Great image Drake. I like it for all the same reasons you have identified in your comments, it works well. My only criticism would be that I feel it is too tightly cropped on the right, it would be good to have some 'breathing' space to look into. The exposure is good with nice crisp white snow as opposed to the usual grey from insufficient exposure. Well done. |

Great image Janine. Derelict buildings make tremendous subjects as indeed this is here, it looks like an old jail, hence the title, there must have been a lot of anxiety amongst those incarcerated within its walls. The composition is excellent from the stairs leading down on the right with the far doorway and corridor leading you into the depth of the building, it works well. Good DOF, the open door on the left adds to the sense of abandonment, I like it all, well done Janine.

Congratulations Marcel, a well deserved ribbon to add to your growing collection. You've done an excellent job and created a fun yet convincing composition worthy of your successful result. I like all the background elements, the shallow DOF and lighting it all works well. Perhaps my only criticism are the reflections in his helmet of your pictures hanging on the walls, a consideration for your next home studio set up? |

You've gone for the 'Ah how cute' route with your lovely soft toy polar bear with his appealing expression, lovely. I'm not convinced about the lighting, its very blue and very red, I think more subtlety and more white would have perhaps been more successful for you…? Anyway, thanks for entering and sharing YaoJun. |

I didn't realise that nicey Barbie got up to such naughty things…! Great idea Susan, well thought out and I love the title but, as you recognise in your comments its not perfect, lighting being the key issue. But the idea is great, thanks for making me laugh... |

One minute you're swimming around without a care in the world, and the next… Great action capture Tom, presumably from the same or similar sequence to your triptych? It's nice to see so close up but therein lies the problem in that perhaps you have cropped too close and the sharpness is not quite there. I do think your image was well worthy of comment and disappointed for you that no-one else contributed during the challenge but perhaps thats confirmation of my own comments…? Anyway, still a great shot Tom, thanks for sharing. |

Vermeer would have been proud of it Ellie! A nice play of shadow and light it is really quite appealing. Given the scene I think your aperture was too small, I would have thought you could have achieved the same DOF with f8 or thereabouts for a faster shutter speed/ISO combination which I would always recommend for best image quality. |
