this is ok, and yes, Superman is/was a figure of authority, but all the same, i think the image would have been stronger without the toy and with a shorter shadow.

i'm not quite sure what this needs, but as is, it just doesn't grab me. i can't tell if it's the lighting, the shallow dof, or the colors, but something is just not working, especially as far as communicating authority.

when i lived in an apartment, i was more concerned about the man in the basement, who had control over the heating, cooling, and plumbing for the entire building...that was authority. this image does not really evoke an impression of authority for me. what rules is he going to enforce? or is he just a scary dude?

while i truly believe in the power of prayer, this image, to me, is more of a snapshot than an image that evokes the authority of a higher being. maybe if shot without the flash, or from a different angle, it might be more powerful.

nice idea. lighting is a little strong, and cropping a little tight. the imperfections in your backdrop are a little distracting as well. focus seems a little soft. don't know what type of camera you are using, or lens for that matter, but in this controlled environment, you should be able to get the focus absolutely razor sharp. this looks like it would be a fun shot to revisit.
