| 01/24/2005 06:24:20 AM | one portraitby lousy_beatnikComment: what an interesting image. she really appears to be totally absorbed. i think the composition is interesting, but the bokeh-type lights are really distracting (very much at odds with the rest of the image). i hope you are getting some good comments and suggestions, and not being overlooked in this monster-size challenge. good luck! | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 01/24/2005 06:21:27 AM | Clockwise Stationby aBriefcaseComment: this is an interesting image. i like the colors. what i'm most interested in is what this image means to you. what made this stand out to you among all the images you took last year? i hope you are getting some good comments and suggestions, and that you are not getting overlooked in this monster-size challenge. if you aren't getting the views and scores you expected, don't take it personally. maybe just consider this a starting point for the rest of the year. keep in mind, one of the 'challenges' is to connect with the viewers and voters. this is not always easy--that's that makes it a challenge! good luck in this and the coming challenges! |
| 01/24/2005 06:15:43 AM | Yosemite Valley and El Capitanby fulgentComment: while i appreciate what you've entered here, i do think it has some things working against it as far as a challenge entry goes. the lighting at this time of day is anything but helpful, as the light and shadows are too strong for the magnificent details to come through. compositionally, you are fine, but your sky is not adding anything to the image. i hope you aren't getting overlooked in this monster-size challenge, and that you are getting some good comments and suggestions. if not, please don't take it personally. just consider this a starting point for the rest of the year. good luck in this and the challenges yet to come! |
| 01/24/2005 06:09:17 AM | One Last Waveby KekiinaniComment: oh, how much fun was this to shoot! whale watching is definitely on my list of things to do before i die! thanks for sharing yours. i hope you are not getting some good comments and suggestions, and not getting overlooked in this monster-size challenge. as far as a challenge entry goes, i imagine that this is getting classified more as a 'snapshot', that is, an image that documents you went whale-watching, than a 'challenge entry', where you are presenting something that will visually arrest the viewers. sometimes, a simple snapshot can do that when it is processed for that purpose. this might be more 'stunning' if you had cropped it down to the whale's tail. the key is to really look at your images to see what you can pull out of them. now, remember, all of this is just my opinion. you have a nice image, and i'm sure you had a wonderful afternoon. please don't take this challenge personally. good luck in this and the coming challenges! | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 01/24/2005 06:01:49 AM | A walk on the beachby jab119Comment: excellent composition. love the colors that the lighting is producing. this is the type of image people can easily take for granted--until they try to shoot it themselves! i hope you aren't getting beaten up for the blown out details, and that you aren't getting overlooked in this monster challenge! good luck in this and the challenges yet to come! | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 01/24/2005 05:59:36 AM | Flightby Dim7Comment: what a beautiful capture. the colors are wonderful. the unfortunate thing about images such as these is that people don't realize how much effort they take until they try to shoot it themselves. good work here. i hope you aren't getting overlooked in this monster-size challenge, and that you are getting some good comments and suggestions. good luck! | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 01/24/2005 05:56:45 AM | Beautifull Eyes!by JeremyFleuryComment: please bear with me on this. this is a tough challenge to vote, not just because of its size, but because we are looking at images that people consider to be their best from the past year--and most people have a bit more personal attachment to these images than to one they might submit for a challenge called "kitchen objects".
you do have a beautiful model, and i hope you have many, many opportunities to photograph her. in this image, though, yes, her eyes are beautiful, but the image is processed to the point that she no longer looks natural. i hope you are getting some good comments and suggestions, and that you are not getting overlooked in this monster-sized challenge; if not, don't take it personally; just consider this a good starting point for the rest of the year. good luck in this and all the coming challenges! | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 01/24/2005 05:50:57 AM | On The Wings Of Freedom!by Moose101Comment: this is a nick-of-time capture! great timing! as far as the image goes, i think you may have let yourself down. there is a huge difference between producing digital art and bringing out the most of what you captured. here, i would have cloned out the distractions from the water, and i might have cloned out the part of the tree line that meets the feet. i also would have pushed the saturization and levels to make the colors pop. when you click the shutter, you are only halfway home--that is, if you really want to score here. otherwise, it doesn't really matter. you have a fine image, and i bet it would look good nicely framed. good luck with this! | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 01/24/2005 05:44:20 AM | Door with Reflectionby RgarciaComment: what an interesting image. i really hope this little gem isn't getting overlooked by the voters in this monster challenge, and that it is getting the viewing time necessary to be appreciated. there are so many interesting elements working here, this is fun to view. i really like this as a bw, and can imagine that color would be a bit distracting. good luck, and please don't take it personally if this gets overlooked. keep up the good work! | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 01/24/2005 05:41:46 AM | Unsettled Weatherby jduffettComment: while i appreciate you effort here, i think your image could use some work. the bottom half is nice and tight, but the top is completely blown out. if it is on purpose, i'll admit, i'm not getting it. if this is not intentional, then please don't take it personally if you are not getting the scores and comments you expected. this is a tough challenge, especially in its size, and to do well, you need to connect with the viewers both technically and aesthetically. good luck! | Photographer found comment helpful. |
