This was captured when I just got this camera in October and started taking pictures. I've captured a lot of bird from the side profile but never from this view and I've always liked this picture. I can always hope for the best.

this is a nick-of-time capture! great timing! as far as the image goes, i think you may have let yourself down. there is a huge difference between producing digital art and bringing out the most of what you captured. here, i would have cloned out the distractions from the water, and i might have cloned out the part of the tree line that meets the feet. i also would have pushed the saturization and levels to make the colors pop. when you click the shutter, you are only halfway home--that is, if you really want to score here. otherwise, it doesn't really matter. you have a fine image, and i bet it would look good nicely framed. good luck with this!

Nice catch, I wish the bird was a little higher in the frame - as it is he is kind of lost amongst the trees almost, this would have been brilliant if you had managed to get it just a little higher against the sky. Still, this is definately a solid challenge entry and I can understand why you like it.

A very nice picture. The thing in the water pulls my eyes away from the bird though. I love how the wings run evenly with the tree line. Also the stump(?) on the left could have easily been cropped out.

A great capture to be sure. Shame about the lack of separation between the bird and the trees.

Interesting perspective as I can't recall seeing a gull flying from this angle. I'm sure that this was a quick shot without much time to prepare for it. It's too bad that you could get more separation between the trees and the gull as the gul gets partially lost. Good choice to offset the bird from a centre shot. Good Luck.

As in photos of people... most animals are more captivating when you can see their eyes. A view from the front would, in my opinion, be a stronger image. The other thing that makes this one hard to look at is the proximity of the bird to the horizon. It confuses the eye a bit as they merge. There is also something on the far left that keeps begging me to look at it. It would be better to simply crop things like that out of the picture. Other than that ... I do like that you placed the bird on the thirds line. And the colors really look good. Good luck in the challenge.

A different angle or slightly different timing would have improved this shot I think, in that the bird would look better shifted either above or below the horizon (against the sky would be best I think).

Nice use of negative space. I would have rated higher if the bird we a little more separated from the trees in the background.

Nice capture... birds are really tough to shoot.
