Many Times, Have I Been Down The Road Less Traveled

ok, this is a very difficult challenge to vote, both in its size, and because it is a 'best of' for a whole year.

i really, really don't mean to be harsh, but please consider this. this is a challenge site, where the purpose of the challenges are to win votes, and that is done by submitting images that will favorably engage the viewer/voters. (granted, sometimes people try to go in the other direction, but that is usually by choice.) when i look at this image, i can see that you have decent equipment and that you a somewhat proficient at post-processing. what i can't understand is why you would pick this image, out of all the images you took last year, to represent your best. i just don't get it. i can understand the sentiment of the title, but all the same, i have a hard time believing that there is not another image in your portfolio that would have scored better than this.

i truly hope you realize i am not saying this to be mean or to try to hurt your feelings. dpc is a great site, and it has made a monumental impact on my photography. but, i have learned the hard way that there is a huge difference between getting good feedback on an individual portfolio image, and entering a vote-getting image. it took me a long time to be able to separate myself from my entries, and to accept a challenge for what it is.

i have no doubt that you have what it takes to be competitve, and i wish you the best for this and the challenges yet to come!

most aptly titled! i appreciate what you've attempted here, and really think you were very close to a killer image. the problem is the size of the leaves and how far apart they are. while this is nice, the leaves are working against each other, making the eye race all over the image, looking for a strong subject. this is a great start. i hope you are getting good comments and suggestions, and not getting lost in the shuffle of this monster-sized challenge. good luck here, and in the challenges yet to come!

[and, as a side note, you might want to look into entering this in your state fair this year. our va state fair actually has a submission category for "state fair images", and something like this would do very, very well. just an idea to keep in mind.]
