This is a great concept and I wonder about some variations to make the image sing a little louder. The blanket is neat, his hair is neat and so the assumption here is not broken because of poverty but rather other implications such as a broken home, etc. My gut feeling with this model is to have him sit, frown and hold his hand over his temples looking totally depressed. However, this is another picture.

As is it is a good photograph and very well composed but lacking that sensation of broken. In its own tight it does have an appeal and that is why U commented on it. 6

A very good find for this challenge and captured very well in its own environment. The dilapidated condition is ideal to impart this great texture. It is an image that speaks of age and of a time long past. A very good study for this challenge. Bumping up.

Bella: I now have to congratulate you on your yellow. What a gal! Believe me those are the best eggs I have seen. You added your signature to them in such a delightful presentation. Again, congratulations, you have scored sooner than I thought.

This is a very attractive image and 59 out of 393 is not bad. The image is very well composed and hence your talent is displayed. The lighting is on the money and to a degree you have done all you can do and while it remains a beautiful image do not feel bad with its placing. Often times artistic efforts escape many voters. My suggestion is to stick with your ideas and to look at images. Go to the sites challenge archives and browse. Look at the images and read the comments. This will simply help expand your outlook.

The image is indeed very nice and the water droplets along with placement spells a lovely to look at image.

The concept here is good. The lighting leaves a little to be desired. First, you chose to light it from the left with a single light source. This favors the shell, yet the light is too close because note how all texture disappears from the top of the shell. Now, the variation of color is in the yoke and the transluscent white. This means you need a second light on the right to give definition. In short, if you want this light effect than a fill light is needed on the right. A fill is a weaker light.

However, if you place your strong light to the right and the fill on the left, the image picks up at once because you will defining the yellow and the white and then the light will illuminate the shell from inside. The fill light will allow some texture on the left. Also, when you shoot this close make sure that you use the smallest aperture permissable. Find if your camera can go on aperture priority. Always take several shots but focusing on different parts. Then select the one that looks the best. On general effort and good composition you get a 6.

My Fan

My Fan

Comment:
A very appropiate entry which many DPC members will dismiss because they never had reason to appreciate the Fan. Westerners give little weight to the physics inherest in a fan to create wind. Expressions of fanning the flames have been around, but in this age of air conditioning the past is easily overlooked.

Well, my only concern is that the part of the face that shows should have received the ultimate attention to capture the skin tones at the expense of the fan. That is the fan has enough color that you can favor the skin tones and still have enough impressive color on the fan.

The composition is just great and really above average. You do have a flair and I suggest you give yourself enough time to tweak your images. Had the skin tones been up to par I would have given the image an 8. As is you get a 7. I had you in my holding place of 5 and your are being bumped 2 notches.

Very nice technique. The employment of a hand slapping it on the surface may have added a sense of immediacy. However, that is another image. Bumping up on good comp and lighting.
