I like this because there's a story here. I think you did a great job in presenting it. I'm not sure how you set up the lighting here but I think it's exposed too much for a night shot. I would have approached this by using a tripod and a long exposure and shine a dim blue light to simulate darkness.

However, this is one of the best in the challenge. Well done!

Lovely soft image. Great DOF. The soft focus and downcast eyes are both strong compositional elements. Just a bit of a purplish cast on the child's face as well as some noise.
