Hi Rene, firstly Congrats on getting your highest challenge score with this entry.
There's a beautifully moody feel to this shot.....composition, subject matter and lighting are superb! You really have done a great job with the lighting. The play of light and shadows gives texture to his hair, highlights the muscles on his abdomen, focuses attention on his face looking down on the cross. I also really like your editing of the layers to get a touch of colour.
The only area for improvement I can see for this shot is the background. There is a blotchy area at the top right of the shot, I also find the line behind his body distracts my eye from your subject. As the challenge was advance editing you could mask the man and use levels to get a more even b/g.
This was a well thought out challenge entry, well deserving of it's good score. Looking forward to seeing more work from you in the future.
regards
sue

She's got the devil in her heart...but her eyes they tantalize ; )by jeroweComment: Greetings from the Critique Club.
Hi Jon,
First impressions are ...I really like this shot. The colours and lighting on your beautiful model are lovely, her pose has a wonderfully fluid and sensual feel to it. Point of view, perspective appeals to me...fits the music.
I do agree with some of your comments about the busy b/g, meter next to her knees being distracting.....I wonder if a shallower dof, background oof would have thrown the focus directly onto her eyes.
I think I might have tried a further slight levels adjustment moving the white slider to 0/1.0/222, it seems to bring out more detail in her eyes and face. Good work on the composition of this shot.....it really is different, vibrant!
I grew up with the Beetles too....this shot really does fit the challenge very well, fits the mood of the time.
I'll look forward to seeing more of your work in forthcoming challenges

18 Seconds Before Sunsetby Joey LawrenceComment: Quite brilliant Joey! Superb colours and lighting.
To me it captures the feeling that death is just another part of life.....when we die the spirit is set free, leaving just the mortal remains.
Ya see, that's why this is such a great shot.....it makes us think, makes us feel...it moves us. |
