fordtruck.jpgby deapeeComment: David,
I typically enjoy viewing your work, but to be honest, this particular image doesn't do anything for me. It seems to have no real point of emphasis to it. I hope you don't think of me as being rude, but I just want to be honest. The shot appears to be tilted to the right a bit, and the image seems to be cut in two by the line of the truck. I'm not quite sure what the focal point is...should I be looking at the emblem or the light or what? The dark patches in the background on the lower portion of the fence/barrier/whatever it is are distracting as well, pulling the eye further away from the part of the image that is in focus.
I do, however, like the duotone you used, and think it will be quite useful for other images in the future.
Like I said, I hope you don't take this as being rude, because I just want to let you know my thoughts since you asked. :) |

The smallest of fiveby bobdaveantComment: What a neat moment to capture! The inkling of a smile makes the shot. He has that shy look to him. You have captured an emotional connection, in this shot particular, with you as the photographer. That's what it's all about. Capturing emotion, mood, and/or feeling. Well done! |

An Eye for an Eyeby TikicharmComment: I think this is an eyeball iris macro... but I could be wrong. It has an other-worldly appearance. It appears to be cropped heavily from the original, and when that happens, along with resizing, you lose a lot of quality and resolution. The centering of the subject makes for a rather flat image; perhaps choosing a composition where the pupil is in the top left or top right corner, with the colors of the iris coming out from it in diagonals would make it a bit more dynamic. The lights reflected in the pupil are distracting, which pulls the attention away from the rest of the image. I think you were on the right track with the idea, but the lack of technical and creative proficiency in the idea's execution will probably have you falling short of a score you might hope to achieve. It is not something most voters would hang on their walls. I wish you luck in future challenges...don't give up!! :) |

The Zebra Familyby STEINRComment: I love zebras...all wildlife really, but they are so cute!! This little family is very photogenic. I love the composition! I know how difficult it is to get them in pin-sharp focus (I've tried many times, more unsuccessfully than not). They move as you click, and you get a little bit of blur. I wonder if a touch more USM would help, especially around the eyes. The background is a tad blown out, perhaps photographing at a different time of day would help but chances are great you'd never get this "pose" again. You've done well with what you had to work with. Nice image! :) |

Lighthouseby inspir8tionComment: This is pretty... I like the boats in the foreground, the water, the building, the sky...creating 4 planes drawing the eyes through the photo. I wish the building were sharper; the texture of the stone just begs to be seen. The colors are very beautiful. Have you tried dodging or curves adjustments a bit on the waterline/building to bring out a few more details? Nice image. :0) |
