The Purple Trumpetsby ZeusComment: The lighting in the photo feels flat some how. I think it may have to do with low overall contrast and a shallow dynamic range of tones. Maybe a little work with levels could expand the range and a bit more brightness and contrast would help. |

my kinda shadeby bashiComment: 160x230, 30K. Why so small? Use all the pixels and image size available to you to make your photo more approachable. |

flowerby maryaresComment: Beautiful shot. Well composed, lit, focused and presented. The photo is substantially smaller than what is allowed and smaller in file size. If you were to use all avail pixels and all the allowable file size, this would score a couple of points higher on average. |

Violet Tendenciesby k175cComment: Cute idea. Nicely captured and focused. Maybe a little over exposed. Crop feels a little tight to me. |

From Deathby SherwinJamesComment: I neither entered nor voted the seed challenge. So I'm innocent! If I had voted, I might have given this a 4.
Here is my "direct" reaction to the photo and the why behind the 4. I get the "life from death" motif but this doesn't tell me or show me anything new in that respect. The seed pod has wonderful texture as does the sand with the terrific side lighting. I think if you had empahsized the textures and really focused on bringing them out, you photo would have scored higher. That probably requires a tighter crop, possibly the bottom and left 2/3rd of the frame. The sand just to the left of the pod is blown out so you have no chance with the texture there. Perhaps soften the lighting from the right and add a bit from the left to preserve all the texture available to you. The three little seeds detract IMO. They are just featureless black spots. Death from death in fact. If one of them was sprouted and some green was growing there would have been a purpose in having them there and your title would have worked splendidly. Or if there was a little rivulet (or even the equivelent of a dry stream bed, that might have implied the seeds could survive. |
