Nightfallby OlyuziComment: Very nice colors in the house here. I really like the subtle and soft blue tone that is resonated throughout the image---splendid! A little bit of criticism: this seems to be a long exposure...There seems a little bit of camera shake on the image which could be avoided by using a shutter release and even with that, to avoid any movement at all--even walking away can disturb the shot! Lastly there are some stray lines in the water in the bottom right of the shot as well in the bottom left that are a little bit distracting, but could easily be cloned out. Cool shot. |

Munching a Mushroomby hughletherenComment: Good shot and good composition. I like how the grass frames your subject and it is not too distracting. The image seems slightly out of focus, and that might have been helped by an application of Unsharp Mask in Photoshop...one last piece of criticism, one of the stems of the plant behind the squirrel seems to be growing out of his head! Cloning that out would help make that a little bit less distracting :) |

Pink feathersby rameviComment: Good shot. I really like the pose. With a bit more post-processing, this could have been made into an excellent shot. This is what I would have liked to have seen done. First off all a slight crop on the left to "center" the body. Then I would have cloned the background to make it completely black. I would subsequently play with the levels/contrast and the hue/saturation to lighten up and bring out the feathers of the flamingo. Optionally, I would also dodge the eye slightly. After adding a bit of an Unsharp Mask, this would have been a top shot I believe. Please contact me if you would like me to show you an example of what I am talking about. |

Hidden nest...until nowby indianzfanComment: The first thing that hits me here is the array of reds---very nice. A bit of criticism: if you could have placed the nest along one of the rule of thirds intersections, than this would have been a well balanced image. I am not a huge fan of the ROT but in this instance, i do not see the advantage of having the nest placed where it is. Nice title too :) |

Ladyby JackoComment: Hey...
Nice colors here and good deatil. A couple of problems that I notice witht the image are "jaggies" that are appearing throughout the image. I am not sure if this is done by oversharpening, resampling, or cloning but they are unnatural. Also, it is slightly conspicuous that there was cloning done to the left side of the ladybug on the yellow but great macro with an interesting subject. |

The Cute Houseby eojedaaComment: I really like the composotion here, but what degrades from this image is the blurred trees in the background, obviously done in photo shop. The shot would have been much better had they been in focus, or just blurred slightly. I think this is overdone. Otherwise, I love the range of colors in the trees that contrast nicely against the flat greens behind. Good eye. |

Kojo's Story of Hopeby TranquilComment: Sorry about this...I probably should have ewntered this into Free Study. Unfortunately, I was blind to realize that the story could not really be read just by the photograph alone. I thought it would have been alright for the viewer to draw their own conclusions. The hope here has to do with hte neglegent family that I got into a conversation with him about after meeting him in the projects of the town that I live in. When I told him about DPC and about what I wanted to take his photo for; he became intrigued and he said he always loved photography. I let him try out my camera and he was so amazed. He said that whenever he went to his friends' houses, that they would have their parents get him a disposable camera and that he'd take it home and hide it and use it and his friends would then develop it. This story really hit me pretty deep. He had a tough life, but he still enjoyed life's comfort. This is why I was comfortable in using this photograph for poverty. Poverty does not always need to mean poor and sad and unkempt and disgruntled, to me and to Kojo it meant something a little bit different. Hope this helps...

Mohonk Mountain Houseby JMSComment: Great place, great food, GREAT SHOT! :) 8 from me. Wonderful tones and rich colors. Great sence of depth as the mountains of New York taper off into the mist in the background. |
