Greetings from the Critique Club!

First off, Welcome to DPC! Glad to see you started to submit. The following is a critique done by a group of users called the Critique Club who are dedicated to critiquing the works of other users. In my critiques, I tend to be as honest as possible without candy-coating, so nothing I say is a personal attack against you or anyone, it is just my feelings on the image. :)

The initial appeal of this shot is the warm color of the sun. You have captured this beautifully, and the clouds just seem to glow. The exposure is fine and the sun is acceptably blown out for a photograph like this.

The big problem in this shot is the composition. It is clear that the focal point of the shot is the boat in the "line of fire" but there is just too much empty space for the eye to travel to. There is nothing necessarily interesting in this space and to me it detracts from the image. I would start by cropping 1/3 from the left and the right of the shot making it almost a vertical panaramic, per se, at first. I would then crop out most of the clouds leaving you with a more compositionally appealing shot. The viewer's eyes would be immediately attracted by the bright sun, and then using the leading lines of the warm sun, the viewer would recognize the boat.

Depending on your camera's capabilities, this might have been the closest crop you could have done in-camera so this just seems to be a little nitpick of post-processing. It is still not a huge problem, but one to look into in future works.

Thank you for submitting --- what a great start! 74% is a rockin' way to start off your DPC career. Hope to see more of your work in the near future!

Greetings from the Critique Club!

My first impressions as a dog-lover are "What a BEAUTIFUl dog!" It seems your dog Bear is quite a star :) As a subject, his eyes are stunning and are the first thing that the viewer is attracted to. As far as subject matters go, this ones a beau!

Technically there are certain parts of this photograph that are a little bit unappealing. There is basically nothing "wrong" so to say with its technicality, but it seems flat to me. The DOF is great and that helps the shot out a lot. However, I think that you could have had more contrast in this shot as the lighting is just too diffure for my taste. Compositionally, I think that the top ear is cut off and for nit-picks this can be a little bit irritating.

This is still a pleasing and heart-warming shot.
Thank you for sharing!

Greetings from the Critique Club!
Let me start off by saying that I disagree with some of the commenters who say that this is not a storm, as the feeling of it is very stormy to me.

The photo itself is very dramatic. From the composition to the freeze action, this works very well. I really like the perspetive in the composition as it leads one's eye directly towards the water surging up the dock and then further past to the white lighthouse in the distance.

The bright lights detract from the central focus of the shot. You could probably crop out the first one to the left and still have a very effective composition.

This was a middle-of-the-line shot and there is room for improvement. What makes it appealing is the angle and perspective chosen, as well as the frozen motion. Good job, and keep up the good work.

If you have any concerns, comments, or questions feel free to PM me.

Brilliant shot with great imagination. The red is really strong as is the perfect balance to the muted colors throughout the rest of the scene. Should see a ribbon --- 10.
