At the pondby mitalapoComment: Just a little too blurry (overall) and a bit overexposed for me. |

The city never sleepsby kanajComment: I think the buildings really need to be crisply sharp for this kind of image. Something is making their focus too soft for me. |

No ordinary dayby NeatComment: Conveys action well, but Id really like to see all of their feet not cropped out. |

Mischief in the eyesby MonaComment: I think this would have been better if shot from the kids level instead of the adult few looking down. The selected shutter speed just doesnt convey action to me. |

Trifecta by VitaminBComment: Im reminded of the classic first stop action horse pictures that proved all four hooves are off the ground. Wish the panning was a little more pronounced, but still a great shot. |

Dancing with the waves by primabarbaraComment: Chicken dinner (as in winner, winner.) Every pixel contributes to the Action theme. Very well done, but you know that. 10 from me. |

Hannah - Folsom Hotel Saloon by tryingtostayinfocusComment: Congrats on the ribbon! I knew this would do very well. I feel lucky in 2nd place; 0.003 difference in score. I know you were well above 7 most days of the voting period. Should have finished there IMO. |

Getting Some Air Before Sunset by texdonComment: Originally posted by Neat: Seriously Don 100%, absolutely fantastic photo!â€Â¦

Anita, from the Queen of Silhouettes, I̢۪m just flattered by your comments. Thank you! 107 attempts. I had several with a single rider I was quite content with. I didn̢۪t even know I got this one until I downloaded the images! Pleasantly surprised to say the least. This a full frame image, no cropping. 100 degree temps and I had to walk to the spot and didn̢۪t want to lug a second lens; Figured I̢۪d be better off with the 70-200, wrong. At 70 mm, my back was against a barbed wire fence with six foot dense weeds behind it.
Sunset was around 8:30 pm, and the riders had to be off the track by 8:30, so I wasn̢۪t going to get the golden light I wanted. This one was snapped at around 7. I̢۪m at the bottom of a 20 feet hill, so the illusion of sunset is there. I did have to play with this to get the light color I wanted. I actually used your latest entry as a guide. It̢۪s a natural vignette, not added. Exposure was really tricky because I could not time very well where the riders would be with the sun and they were very fast. Ended up with a high shutter speed priority with an automatic 5 stops underexposure dialed in. Most of the riders had called it a day by 7:30 and were leaving.
Thanks everyone for the wonderful comments. I know now where the higher scores come from. Wish I could figure out the 4s and 5s. |
