I am pretty sure I would never have guessed what this is if you didn't explain it.

To me, this is effective as an abstraction, but not a still life.

This strikes me as being solely a floral shot, with none of the elements that would make it a still life.

Congratulations, Shannon! As to your comment in your photog's notes--I'm sure I would have entered, but I don't think I've EVER taken a photo of a baby animal!

P.S. Is this a self-portrait?

Denise - congratulations for your first ribbon (and a BLUE one) and your new personal-best score! That's just awesome.

So in this photo I see dill, lavender, and rosemary, and I think I see basil and sage... am I right so far? What am I missing?

Second Niall's comment - this is a conceptually strong photo and makes a welcome jab at the epidemic of infuriating phone trees. (A lot of them you can just pound 9, 0, or # to get to a real person, but that doesn't always work... and even more than traditional ones, I can't stand the ones that require you to speak phrases to a robot.) Anyway, congrats on top ten!

The overlay really does add a lot to this image. It's tastefully handled--enough to give it a gritty old-beat-up sort of feel without being overpowering. I daresay it's also a sign of being well done that I can't tell how many overlay images you used, but I'd guess two or three. (Maybe you just had one really fabulous texture!)
