Fisherman's Bastion Budapestby enikoComment: Very pleasing treatment of a very pleasing scene. If that sounds wishy-washy, not in the least - pleasing, to me, is a valued aspect of a photo, as it is linked with pleasure. (and why does spell-check offer, in preference, wish-washy, washy-washy, dishy-washy, wispy-washy and fishy-washy?). The modestly impressionistic treatment yields a congenial result. An interesting composition as the buildings zigzag through the image, surrounded by trees and topped by a pale blue sky. Fine image. |

Heading out to seaby P-A-U-LComment: Seemingly simple but very interesting, visceral image. I can actually feel in my stomach the ocean swell in the foreground. The sun and its reflection seem so bright that I instinctively avert my gaze. The smudged sailboat balances the scene, but hardly plays a part in this grandeur. The painterly treatment is modest and quite successful. Fine work. |

Rainy Night by GeorgesBogaertComment: Terrific homage to van Gogh's "Starry Night." The blue and yellow "paint" cinch the intention, though "Starry Night" also brings in some green and, which doesn't at all detract from my admiration, is less garish. The composition is successful, with the apparent depth of field playing out attractively behind the people in the foreground. The buildings on the right side of the street have an appealing cubist quality, which contributes to the transition from realistic figures to the abstract, dreamy night sky. We can see from the umbrellas that it's raining. A pleasant ambiguity arises in the sky - are those blue-yellow dabs stars or raindrops?
A wonderful effort and result. |

denouementby tangueraComment: What a treat! A stylish, understated take on impressionism. She's superbly backlit, her garment a diaphanous revelation. That pink absolutely brings the image to a simmer. The title drives our understanding, and brings drama and weight to the moment. She's not ordering a pizza with extra cheese. The soft focus works well to allow her some privacy. A real tour de force.
Personal favorite of the challenge. |

Losheng Hansen's disease sanitoriumby GeorgesBogaertComment: Perhaps the abandonment of this sanatorium declares a lack of need for it because the disease in no longer such a threat. What an uplifting twist imparted to this scene if so. I like the receding repetition of the chairs, columns, archways and sunlight. It's very neat and clean, which lends it a reverent atmosphere. I also like the muted colors. |

a ladder by TiberiusComment: Nice composition. The cheerful dappling of the unpretentious concrete structure by the sun lends a welcoming feeling to this compact, cozy scene. |

Years Gone Byby LydiaComment: Good casual study of one side of an abandoned building. The composition looks off-hand but balances out well. The small tree on the left and the smaller window and pipes on the right allow the large window to be strongly in the center. What's within is difficult to establish. Nice. |

House Abandonedby clickodakComment: What appeals to me most about this image are the splashes of red/pink leaves and/or pods that bracket the building, which itself is rather nondescript. I also like the veil of bare branches. |

get out fast!by PennyStreetComment: To understand this image as one of abandonment I'd have to weave an imaginative premise and background story. Or take your word for it. In any case I like the weirdness of the people smeared in front of the rudimentary doors. It's somehow mythic, but don't ask me to expand on that. |

In Nature's Gripby PangurbanComment: This amazing stone building is looking quite dapper in its verdant old age. What a fascinating area. Well set in its environment, almost sprouting out of the soil. I like the angle from which you've chosen to present the house and landscape. Very inviting, |
