Painted Marblesby A WeaverComment: Really nice picture with great depth of field but I will copy in a section I have put in to some other comments so you understand my score.
My only concern is, as you may have guessed from the amount of discussion on the forum re "painting with light" is whether it is "painting with light".
Having been lucky enough to judge what is now a few hundred competitions in the last 30 years I feel I should say the first thing that happens is that they are sorted and any that do not immediatly seem to fit the category are dumped (hard but a fact). This is why so many competitions also run an "open category". Your picture, as impressive as it is, would, I feel have been rejected at this stage. "Painting with Light" has a fairly tight definition in photography but still allows a lot of lattitude for creativity.
I suspect that your scores may not reflect what the picture is worth which is a great shame.
-------------
I believe if I was judging in another category I would have gone for an 8 possibly a 9 because you have managed to get those highlights working so well.
I do hope you understand my reasons for marking it down
David

"Jackson Pollock" lightsby fredrojComment: So there really are some who have entered who
a: read the category description
b: Understood it
This is painting with light. Unfortunatly I think this (and a few others) will be hammered by non-photographers and photographers who misunderstand the photographic definition of painting with light. Well done.

Animal dreamsby PacloComment: One of the few who seem to be genuinely painting with light according to the photographic definition. Makes me think very much of "Australian Aboriginal Dreamtime".
Unfortunately I suspect it is likely to be hammered by non-photographers and anyone not understanding "painting with light"
I think it's great though. |

Heaven & Hellby dsa157Comment: Starlight filters rarely work - but this one really has - I love it - 3 seperate images from 1 image. It has really worked. My only concern is, as you may have guessed from the amount of discussion on the forum re "painting with light" is whether it is painting with light.

Spiritsby Harz_JoergComment: One of the few in this category that has (I think) used one of the traditional definitions of "painting with light". Beautiful colours. It is only the tilt of the blue glass that does not seem quite right. I like the highlights - particularly the one catchlight at the top rim of the blue glass. |

Cherishby katlynComment: Nice picture - a little overexposed - but does not seem to satisfy the principles of "painting with light" - either a moving light source or long exposure with repeated illumination from different locations |

Would you like a Reading?by MusicmanComment: Good background - the glass has retained its clarity - figurine has retained its texture but does not seem to satisfy the principles of "painting with light" - either a moving light source or long exposure with repeated illumination from different locations |

A Snowy Nightby vtruanComment: This is a very evocative picture - and one I like very much but does not seem to satisfy the principles of "painting with light" - either a moving light source or long exposure with repeated illumination from different locations |
