Keeping the sea at bayby PenelopeKComment: I admire the tones you got here, and the band of rich and varied textures crawling like a snake across the frame are just lovely. |

working blues by BrennanOBComment: Originally posted by SEG: Good image but I am surprised that no one has mentioned the Staples box and what appears to be PVC pipe in the upper left hand corner where it appears your backdrop is not giving proper coverage. Frankly so was I. Part of the reason I de-satted the reds so hard was that the diagonal of red from staples box to plyer handles to saw blade, were too strong, and really dominated the composition. The idea was glasses and office supplies, pen in pocket- the business end of the business, upper left, construction part lower right. Im not sure how obvious that metaphor was, but its attempt looked bad enough that I covered up the office supplies and put away the glasses for the rest of the takes. On review is shot was the most interesting, though my daughter said the glasses made me look wimpy, and I find the office and plumbing stuff distracting. Tsunamiby loveComment: I think the scores were a bit lower than they might have been if the pain wasn't still so fresh. Its a beautiful image, but for me it elicits a galvanic reaction of pulling away.
Interesting to see that participants were much kinder int heir scoring than non. |

On the verge of tearsby jjbeguinComment: It is images like this that make me not like this site.
You are one of my favorite photographers on this site, and as I went through this challenge voting I flipped through this image and saw it as empty but technically sound and gave it a 6.
Now that I know it is yours, and I know a small part of the why, and the who of the image I can see that it is still empty, but that emptiness is vast and focused. The absence comes not form a lack of something to say, but but from a missing place beyond words or concrete iconography. It is an image worthy of serious attention. I wonder how many other images from photographers who's work I do not already know I miss each time I vote as I flip....flip....flip.In the future I will try to slow down and give images their due time.
I'm sorry for your loss, you seem to be going to too many funerals lately.

Sather Towerby GeneralEComment: Its a nice shot, well framed and edited, but must.....tilt.....more!
The ground may be sliding away but the campanile and the trees say your horizon line is straight. In a challenge like this (or for almost all the others for that matter) it doesn't pay to be subtle. |
