Nice, dreamy image of an island gettaway with it's own pier. And the voters were pretty good to you with that 5.5.
I've got just one suggestion for you and if the topography isn't right for it, well, that's the way it goes: the island and the mainland behind it merge drastically. Could you get either a lot higher to give them separation or get a lot lower to eliminate the mainland all together. As I say, it's just a thought. And if you would need a skyhook, well "my bad" for suggesting it...
;>)
In any event, keep up the good work and I'll look forward to seeing more of your images in DPChallenge.

Nice job here. You have good definition, good color and a nice composition. And, while not a great score, certainly a decent one.
IN this crowd on nature photography, that's hard to do. I have just one suggestion for you in this very nice image: because this was an advanced editing Challenge, you might want to consider either blurring out or otherwise obscuring those reeds to the right of the critter's head. They are the brightest part of the image, and the viewer will look at them first instead of the guy's form and face.
Of course it doesn't help his cause that he lives in a mess, but you probably couldn't exaactly reach in and pose him. ;>)
All in all, a nice image that scored pretty well.
It looks as if you are enjoying your DPC experience and I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Welcome to DPChallenge. Now you have your first Challenge under your belt - didn't hurt a bit, did it!
You have an image here that certainly literally meets the Challenge, but it just didn't score very well. Perhaps I can give you a few ideas to try next time...
I'm looking for a Center of Interest. Yes, the road is there, but so are signs, underbrush, fresh logs, and a gray sky. I'm sort of looking for some reason to look at this image. The Barrier is rather interesting; it along with the road could make up a composition. Or perhaps used in conjunction with that sign stating the obvious: No thru traffic. In other words, it might be fun to see how to simple this subject down to include just two or three important items to give the viewer something to focus on.
And then, to get more different values into an image, even on a gray day, I have tried bracketing my shots and even changing the ISO, for example, to see what happens. And if all else fails, there is always Photoshop to change an image to black and white using the Channel Mixer to give some depth.
Have I given you enough to go on? Or mabee a bit more than you really wanted to hear? (joking)
IN any event, welcome to DPC. I'll look forward to seeing more of your work.
