This reminds me very much of the lighthouse on Kauai. Wonder if I'm right. Perhaps you put the location in your photographer's notes so I can check back later.

Nice image, btw.

Greetings from the Critique Club

...and with your score, you only ended up 29th out of 140. Sometimes there is no justice.

Forgive me if I don't spend too much time attempting to critique your splendid image. It is just fine; composition works, technicals spot on, lady bug - not red, can't have everything. Especially if you scooped her off the windowsill.

Keep up the good work and you'll achieve your goals soon.

Hmmm, 24 out of 281. Not bad! Beautiful work, of course.

Wonder how long it took to get your fingernails clean again.

Greetings from the Critique Club

Welcome to DPC! I see this is your second Challenge and a nice image to boot.

The voters had a bit of trouble with your image, and indeed, except for the title, it doesn't really say education. Many people have learned that titles, while good to have, don't influence the voter very much. Then, while the composition is (imo) excellent, the technical aspects are a little off, perhaps. It's fairly important to have at least some of your image really sharp, and with that 1.2 aperture your depth of field just wasn't enough to make anything really sharp. I'd suggest bracketing your shots to see what is most pleasing. I do wonder what, say a 5.6 would have done. It looks as if you had enough light to get a fast enough shutter speed to stop action. I guess that's where bracketing comes in.

I do wish you lots of luck and fun at DPChallenge and will look forward to seeing more of your photography.

Greetings from the Critique Club

When this image popped up on my screen in the random selection that we get here at the Critique Club, I thought "oh, this is the one I liked!" and sure enough, my vote was one of your four 10s. So, I'm going to be a bit prejudiced about critiquing this image.

I loved the dark, ominous mood of this well composed image. And if you did it handheld, more power to you. It is as crisp as it needs to be to maintain that mood. If I had to nitpic, (and it would be a nitpic) I'd suggest that if you had composed your shot to eliminate the lights at the right border, it would have eliminated an unnecessary attention getter.

Other than that, your score must have been a matter of personal like or dislike for our voters, as the image meets the Challenge perfectly and is technically and artistically well done (IMO).

Keep up the good work.

Greetings from the Critique Club

Welcome to DPC. YOur second Challenge and looks as if you are having lots of fun setting up shots already.

In this image, you have an excellent idea but lacked the technical skill, probably, to pull it off. I'm going to defer to PhotoDude who gave you lots of good hints on how to make this image better.

I will add, however, that you might also look at composing this image differently. Frequently, smack in the middle subjects are not as interesting as, for example, off-center ones. Or on a diagonal, say from lower left to upper right.

Other than that, get out your tripod and give PhotoDude's suggestions atry. Finally, it helps us at the Critique Club and it helps you to understand how your camera works if you fill in and understand the settings on your camera.

I'll look forward to seeing more of your images on DPC.

You did a good job of minimizing that horrid chainlink fence that's been around the lighthouse for way too many years now...
