Great find! I don't know much about mathematics, but somehow I feel sure this has something to do with Pi!
What I do know is that I think it's just fine technically, and compositionally, it fairly leaps out of the screen at me. I very much like the little ellipse in the middle. I don't know your reason for putting the large ellipse off center vertically, but it works for me. (Although it didn't for some of our voters) You received a respectable score, in this tough Challenge and you have an image that you can enjoy.
Keep up the good work. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Welcome to DPC. Glad to see you parcipating to regularly. It's the best way to learn!
This image has been well critiqued all ready. If you follow taterbug's advice you will have an excellent image when you are done. (And it doesn't hurt to redo a Challenge entry, if you think you can do it better.)
I'll add just one more comment about your image. (well, maybe two). The title is terrific! Then, if it was mine, I'd be a bit more careful in the carving of the symbol. Because it is the star of the show, it should be absolutely beautiful with sure & true knife lines.
Again, welcome to DPC. I'll look forward to seeing more of your work in future Challenges. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Wow, this is a bright flower, for sure.
My first reaction on seeing this image was, "oh dear, over-saturated". I think this flower would have been effective if the color had not been boosted quite so much, and even for a macro shot, it would have been nice to have more of the petals in better focus.
But you met the Challenge, and you're back in competion here at DPC and I certainly hope to see more of your work in the future. You have a good eye. |

One of the things I like about the CC is that we get to see, and appreciate, all sorts of different subjects and approaches to photography.
This is one I like a lot. It's high key, tells a great story, and there is faultless attention to detail in getting the metal bits and ground-in grime to star in the show. I think it's a technique you like to do, as I noticed and loved your "Wisconsin" piece as well.
I don't really have anything to critique on this image; it meets the challenge, and as far as I can see, it's technically and compositionally good.
Keep 'em coming. I'll look forward to seeing more of your work. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Welcome to DPC. I see this is your first entry and a creditable one as well.
YOu did well to capure these flowers in a high wind situation. In my area, the wind dies down in the early morning, and that's when I try to get my flower shots. So, sometimes, it just pays to shoot at the right time.
Because it was windy, you had to go for 'stop action' which gave you very little background blur. But because you want the viewer to look at the beauty of the flower, it's usually best to try for strong blur, and you usually need a still target for that. My suggestion is to bracket your shots: experiment, and see what you think.
In any event, you met the Challenge and got your first Challenge out of the way, and I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work at DPC. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Wow, great shot of that desert tortoise. Super coloring and super focus on the legs and head of this creature.
It's hard to know what to critique in this image because I like it a lot, but I did play around with the composition a little. Smack in the center of the frame is not always the best composition, and if this guy would let you, an off-center shot would also be good. And if it was mine, I'd probably crop out a bit more of the foreground blur, but that's a matter of opinion and your crop works fine.
So, all in all a good image that met the Challenge nicely and one that gave you a fairly decent score.
Keep up the good work and I'll look forward to seeing more of your work. |

Um, from your musings above, whether to put your entry in Symmetry or PiII, I think this would have been an excellent choice for symmetry. It is just a bit esoteric for the literalists who voted on Pi and your score reflected that. (no pun intended)
However, you do have an excellent image here, nicely exposed, fine composition, and for goodness sake, you kept yourself out of the reflection in the hubcaps. Chevy emblems are handy sometimes...
So, keep up the good work and I'll look forward to seeing more of your work in future Challenges. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Congratulations on a fine score for a fine image. You placed well, deservedly, for this handsome piece.
I very much like your color treatment and of course your composition and technicals are spot on.
Therefore, I will simply say congratulations on your recognizing this scene for what it is, and for your photographic execution.
Keep them coming! I'll look forward to seeing more of your work. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Welcome to DPC! You produced an image with a remarkable amount of depth in it. That's hard to do, and you did it!
There were a large number of entries in this Challenge with lots and lots of numbers, and your scoring may have suffered a bit because of that. I did look to see if I could find at least the beginning numbers of PI but didn't find them. That also may have brought down your score a bit.
I would say that you have a creditable first entry, and keep them coming. I for one will look forward to seeing more of your work. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Your very good title explains and identifies your work nicely.
I very much like the blue & yellow flowers against the desaturated paths. They set off the theme you chose well.
If it was mine, I think I would try for better focus on those flowers; at least the foreground ones. Maybe bracketing those shots (using a tripod if at all possible) would bring up some other focusing choices here. And then, I suppose if I wanted to nitpic a little, a different crop on the right might have eliminated those two little 'v' shaped areas that aren't quite big enough to add to the story (IMO of course).
Still, it's a very good image and one you should be pleased to have entered. |
