Prickly Pear Bloomby AzCKellyComment: Greetings from the Critique Club
Cactus blossoms are always so beautiful to find and to photograph. The obstacle course getting to them is sometimes half the fun.
I like, very much, the selective desaturation on the base of the flower. It gives the impression of an inward glow that is quite pleasing.
But my overall impression of this very nice image is that it is fuzzy. It's usually helpful if somewhere in the composition there is something that is tack-sharp to give the viewer something to stop at, and get bearings.
I like the idea very much and a little sharpness would make this image really zing. |

Oh, it's Stan Hazelton; the one who gives such nice, gentle comments over at Post Processing Challenge. Hi.
I hope I can do as well on this very nice image I see before me. I agree wholeheartedly with your other commenters that you did a super job on the desaturation of these blossoms. It's a slow and meticulous job.
I'll do a 'however' here and suggest that if your background had been blurred out just a bit more into total obscurity this image would have popped nicely. The leaves and the blossom branch make an excellent composition by themselves; the background is a touch confusing.
Again, many thanks for your commenting skills. |

tomorrow's landscape?by sidpixelComment: Greetings from the Critique Club
A great piece of commentary, here. Thanks for entering it.
Your desaturation detail looks good and certainly the black & white portion is nicely done. The one thing that hit me when I first saw this image in competition and again now, is that those cooling towers are very orange. I wonder if you happened to boost the colors just a tad beyond believability, or maybe they were just that way at sundown/sunrise and it's all in my imagination.
In any event, no matter that the scoring on this was merely average, you told a good story, and told it well.
I wish you continuing future success at DPC. |

Oh, I'm so pleased this did well in this low scoring Challenge. I remember this image well from the Challenge and voted it high.
Beautifully composed and an unforced cheerfulness from your little girl model. Focus is spot on and the flowers are nicely placed.
What's not to like? It's a good image and one you can be proud of.
I wish you continued success in your DPC experience.

The 22nd Mileby RebeccaComment: Greetings from the Critique Club
Oh, I'm so pleased to have the chance to look at this image again. I do remember it very well from the Challenge and marveled then (and now) at the perserverence of the cyclist.
You caught the moment well and used the 'desaturation' theme well when you laid all the emphasis of the image on the athlete. The encouragement of the bike rider beside him is well captured.
Why didn't it score higher? Who's to know. Sometimes these things just work out that way.
It's a good image that tells a good story. |

Um, this one is a toughy to critique. As far as it goes, it's a nice B&W image with good black and white gradations, but when confronted with the Challenge title, I did think the desaturation was a bit subtle.
I suppose it was mine, I'd have given ol' Jacob a few more flowers and more colorful ones. poor fellow, he didn't even make it to his 21st birthday.
Anyhow, you got dinged by your subtle image and that doesn't happen very often to you.
Continued success in your DPC experience.

Museum Shapesby NuzzerComment: Greetings from the Critique Club
Yes, the British have some fabulous museums in London, don't they. (I usually head for the Nat'l Gallery and the Tate)
You've captured a remarkable juxtaposition of eras, shapes and tones in one image. Still, your composition is quiet enough so that the viewer is not confused by all the information. That's probably why you scored so well in this difficult Challenge.
So, I'll say "congratulations" on a fine image and I'm delighted to have had the chance to view it again.
