GREETINGS FROM THE CRITIQUE CLUB

well, after I stopped giggling, I looked at your score, and didn't giggle quite so hard anymore.

I like the mischief in this image and the little kid is a joy ... did he wiggle the tree just a bit to get that burst of light design going?

Of course it breaks every rule in the book and that's the way you wanted it - you went with the humor and fun.

So, if your mum's pictures made you smile as much as this did me, and a few others, well your mission is accomplished.

GREETINGS FROM THE CRITIQUE CLUB
There are times when I don't know why the voters elect to give middling scores to a good image. This is one of them.

I think your processing is fine, delicate and carefully done. Fabulous sunrise, captured and processed well, with nice tones in the buildings and street lights complementing that early light. It is perhaps more illustration-like than 'realistic' photography, but that suits the image.

Maybe a sleepy kid in a red coat with a sled dragging behind would have added punch - (I'm really fantasizing here) but in any event I think you did a good job and can only say: "Keep up the good work!"

PS I gave you a '7' in competition for this Xmas Card type image.

GREETINGS FROM THE CRITIQUE CLUB

If this is early in your HDR career, you are doing quite well. It isn't "overblown" in the HDR sense, where unnatural coloration and strange visions dance before the eyes. :-))

I very much like the background mountains, soft yet interesting and the grasses work well in the image. that straight line in the midground (the water) acts as a magnet for the viewer. If it was mine, I'd probably try to get down a bit more to eliminate that straight edge.

Then, yes, you could use something in the foreground to provide interest and keep the viewer in the picture. Move around until you could get a tree or even a large-ish snow patch in there. (If you can't find a dog or a kid - joking)

Keep up the good work. I'll look forward to seeing more of your art.

GREETINGS FROM THE CRITIQUE CLUB

Yes, you have a lovely little girl there and her red costume fits the scene nicely as does that translucent umbrella with the red trim.

Others have mentioned that it would be nice to have more light on her face so I won't dwell on that. I will suggest that you look at this image cropped so that all that empty sky to the left goes away. That includes most of the ugly airplane con-trail. Since this is Advanced Editing, you could clone out any remainder. That would bring the focus to the little girl which is where you want it. You could also concentrate on bringing out the depth of the clouds behind her that have so much majesty. (If it was mine, I'd probably not lighten the area behind her quite so much, but that is an individual thing.)

You live in a beautiful city and a beautiful land that I remember with great fondness from a visit there some years ago.

I'll look forward to seeing more of your work.

Um, like art roflmao, I agree that you still have mojo.

Maybe the slight lack of coloration had something to do with it, or maybe there is still a problem with zoo animals amongst the voters. Who knows why scores are the way they are these days.

there's nothing wrong with this image, and we both know it. Sharp, crisp, well positioned in the frame, highlights in the correct spots, and yeah, maybe not enough 'color' in the fur to attract the folks looking for saturation.

Good luck in your next entry. You know you're doing just fine. So do I.

well, since you came in 4th, you don't really need a 'critique' from the Critique Club.

that carving is hard to do, especially with something that oxidizes so quickly.

Nice job. Keep up the good work.

Awww, yes, this is a cute little feller, and congratulations for getting down to its level for the photo.

Now, in my opinion, this pretty little image suffers from 'busy background syndrome'. If you could have isolated the little figure from that house and all the busyness in the background it could have been a contender. As it is, it is hard to find the little figure amongst all the clutter.

then, had you isolated the figure, if you had, say, tied a red ribbon around it someplace, or otherwise make it stand out on its own, that would have given an incentive to voters. In other words, make it special.

I wish you good luck in future entries. Hey, you have that first entry in there now.

I will look forward to seeing more of your work.

Well, 'heck's bells' I don't know what's wrong with this humorous image nor why it hit the mid-point in scoring.

technically it is just fine, DNMC? Nope, it's funny, cute and all those other things that make for good storytelling photography.

So, keep on playing. And join the Critique Club (if you're not already a member) Your input could be wonderful for newbeees.

GREETINGS FROM THE CRITIQUE CLUB

Well, I don't know what you were doing a year ago, but, indeed this is pretty nice. Love the sky and the colors and the flow of clouds across the sky.

Oh, I wish you had flipped this image horizontally. It pops beautifully when you do that.

Compositionally, that tree with the cropped branches looks great on the left (as you say: a little left of normal) as it is then leading you into the picture. the sun on the trunk leads to the clouds, and on we go. Where it is now, it looks (forgive me) a little like a mistake as the clipped branches take the viewer right out of the picture.

Make sense? If not, don't worry about it. You are well on your way in the learning curve. Keep up the good work.
