Until Againby MilaMilesComment: GREETINGS FROM THE CRITIQUE CLUB
Whoa - what a beautiful image. So, why aren't you on the front page? I don't know. You have two 'favs' so that's something. And you came in fairly high in this strange pack of DPC voters. So that's something.
As something of an artist myself, I compliment you on your drawing skills. The beautiful placement in the frame of both the face and the dried stalks work well. Everything certainly meets the Challenge.
This is one of those (few) times that I cannot think of anything that would "improve" this image. It is just lovely, and you can be rightly proud of it.
Keep 'em coming!

What are those???by LonnieDComment: GREETINGS FROM THE CRITIQUE CLUB
Oh, what a charming, charming child. Congratulations on having such a sweet subject for your photography.
The composition of your image works quite well although those four white beams behind your subject are a little distracting. The lighting in this image appears, to me, to be a problem and with a little adjusting in Levels that could be corrected pretty well.
Then there are quite a few 'hot spots' here in the bubbles. My suggestion would be to bracket your shots. Take some underexposed as well as overexposed. I'm pretty sure you can set your camera to do this but you might have to track down your instruction book to find out how.
:-))
I look forward to seeing more of your work especially since you have such a special subject to work with. |

a light touchby posthumousComment: GREETINGS FROM THE CRITIQUE CLUB
Dang it, when are we going to have another "Black & White" challenge. Your name will be up in lights! (Delicately)
Very, very lovely play on light in this image; one might almost say "a delicate play on light." Unfortunately, I seem be one of the very few to say it.
I'm not going to second-guess the voters; as far as I'm concerned, this is technically and artistically just fine. And meets the challenge about as well as 'most any of the entries.
So keep on seeing the world your way and thanks for letting us enjoy it with you. |

Bubbles in the makingby JRiggsComment: GREETINGS FROM THE CRITIQUE CLUB
What a tranquil scene you present here. Let's see, you're on the east coast, so is that a sunrise? In any event, your framing is nice with the pier on one side and the nice bar of surf in the foreground, and those luscious colors in the sky.
I think you probably wanted the surf line to stand in for bubbles, and perhaps if you were able to bring that lens closer, and tighter, they might well have. Unfortunately, that very very hot sun is competing strongly for attention and it takes a 2nd or even 3rd look to find the shadowy surf. The sun is a tough target at any angle, but at the horizon it really is a challenge.
I wish you good luck in your future entries and expect you will be scoring right up there with the best of 'em any day now. Message edited by author 2010-01-27 15:52:23. |

A Slow And Brief Journeyby NuzzerComment: GREETINGS FROM THE CRITIQUE CLUB
Always fun to get an image from another member of the Critique Club to look at.
This is a good one and I'm pleased to have a second chance to look at it, this time more carefully than during the voting process, where it earned a 7 from me.
Okay, to work: the blurred background is excellent. You found exactly the right place to shoot this and your f4 aperture was perfect for this effect. While, if it was mine, I might have preferred to get the complete opalescent/iridescent shine on the bubble, we take what we can get. The pattern reflected in your example works very well as it is balanced nicely in the sphere.
With your nice finish, why you ought to be in the Critique Club! Wait a minute, you are!
:-))
Keep up the good work. |
