Delicate Woman & Laceby SAScambosComment: GREETINGS FROM THE CRITIQUE CLUB
Hello Stephanie. I see we are neighbors! One of these days perhaps we will meet at a DPC Get together! I hope so.
What a lovely portrait you presented to the voters in the Delicacy Challenge. I like the black and white treatment you gave this image, and generally agree with your crop, except that perhaps if it was mine (and I know it isn't) I'd have taken a bit more off the head or left all of it in the frame.
The theme. Delicacy. Um, the lace is certainly so, and meets the Challenge well. Is it well enough defined in the frame to sway the voters? Maybe not. It is my impression that this and only this is what caused this image to reap a score that could be considered underrated. But, that's just one person's opinion.
Those of us who belong to the Critique Club don't have any special visual or occult powers. We just add our own personal viewpoints to the mix, and hope it helps.
I certainly look forward to seeing more of your work and perhaps meeting you one of these days.
Best regards,
Alice |

Fragile - Handle with Careby duartixComment: I bury my head in my hands. HOW could this score below a five.
Lovely child, lovingly photographed. It's a keeper.
Yes, I know the child is, so is the photograph.

Bubblesby choltmeierComment: GREETINGS FROM THE CRITIQUE CLUB
Well, it shows that you know your way around a camera. The lighting and setup is delightful on this one, composition is just fine, exposure and placement in the frame works nicely.
So why did it end up at exactly at the 50% mark? Could it be that since the theme was Bubbles, people expected to see bubbles front and center?
Hmmm, maybe the name of the 'model' is Bubbles; who knows, could be.
:-))
I think you like to play around the edges of Challenge themes, and most of the time it works. This time? Well...maybe, maybe not.
Oh, please continue to have fun with your well-planned and executed entries.
I look forward to seeing more of them.

Setting It Freeby romilComment: GREETINGS FROM THE CRITIQUE CLUB
Ohhh, when I saw this come up on my screen, I could hardly wait to see how it did in the scoring. I loved it and gave it a 7.
It is a beautiful image; you handled it well. Excellent lighting and good cropping on your model's face. It would (perhaps) have been better to have more of the face in the picture, and more or less of the clothing. You "could" even here, have gone with a slightly closer crop to remove the blue...next time. While I cannot get over the excellent lighting, the remainder of the composition has a great deal of merit as well, and keeping your helper relaxed and enjoying the shoot counts for a great deal. It is fantastic experience should you decide on photography as a career.
I look forward to seeing more of your work.

Brittleby ZackTComment: GREETINGS FROM THE CRITIQUE CLUB
Welcome to DPC. Your first entry - wow. The hard part is over.
You have a pretty image here and the dried flowers are indeed delicate, so it pretty much meets the Challenge criteria. Perhaps if they were a lighter shade, or were less 'bulky' the voters might have interpreted them as more delicate. We'll never know, but it is a thought to consider.
There is one point to consider in an image like this. Unless there is a very, very good reason for having a large portion of the foreground blurred, try very hard to keep it in focus. This is because the viewer must look beyond the blurred section to get at the message. Because viewers tend to want to see something right away, they will just skip on to the next image (trailing a low score behind them) when such a hurdle presents itself.
Your focus on the rose and the remainder of the composition is good and your technical work looks good, so just keep shooting and entering Challenges.
I'll look forward to seeing more of your entries, soon.

Delicate Strawberry Seductionby kingskingdomComment: GREETINGS FROM THE CRITIQUE CLUB
What fun it is to look at this image close up and to enjoy it.
It appears that you have self-diagnosed any problems with this image, so I won't dwell on artifacts and the like. I am not sure the voters classified this as "delicate" and perhaps that is another reason for the score that is undoubtedly not one that you normally see.
But there will be another Challenge, and another chance to wow us all with your excellent images.
I will look forward to your next entry(s). |
