Paris-Montmartreby Rino63Comment: GREETIngS FROM THE CRITIQUE CLUB
Oh, I am SO envious. You were in Paris last year and I was not. Not only that, but you captured a great street scene.
Interesting. You finished just about in the middle of the pack in this demanding "Best of 2009" Challenge. And that is just about the way your comments split on your treatment of this scene.
HDR, Topaz. Like? Don't Like? That is the question.
My personal opinion is that you have taken this excellent image almost to the point of illustration and if I was lucky enough to call it mine, I'd probably do it more in a photographic way. But this fine image is yours, not mine.
You had fun with it and it shows very nicely. that's what counts. Keep up the good work.

Four little piggiesby jeffreype123Comment: GREETINGS FROM THE CRITIQUE CLUB
Well, jeffreype123, if your intention was to make the voters smile, you succeeded beyond belief. If, in addition, your intention was to score well, well you have time for that later.
For the record, this is an excellent macro shot. Did I know toes have (er)toeprints, like fingerprints? Well, I do now. Nice placement in the frame (I can't believe I'm saying this) and good colors. The green thingee in the upper right bothered me a little at first, but then I thought, "Why not!"
Would I hang it on my wall? Um, I will think about it. Is it amusing and fun and all that. Oh, yes.
So, thanks for submitting it to the "Best of 2009" Challenge, keep your sense of humor, and I DO look forward to seeing more of your work.

Big Cat, Big Toysby TommyMoe21Comment: GREETINGS FROM THE CRITIQUE CLUB
Congratulations on yet another fine animal portrait from what appears to be your favorite zoo.
It shows that you know your critters and shoot them with understanding and compassion and do it very well.
You have many fine constructive comments and don't really need a critique with that good score of yours. So add my congratulations to the list and I'll say thanks for the opportunity to romp through a little of your portfolio before heading on to the next image in the Critique club queue.

Horseshoe Lake Refugeby digichicComment: Greetings from the Critique Club
What a find in the middle of Illinois! I too, would have thought these trees would be located on the edges of Florida!
It was a good find and you made the most of it. Your many comments tell you that there were many interpretations of your handling of this scene.
I guess I am on "the side" of those who think it is a touch over-saturated and thus tends towards harshness. The Hue/Saturation sliders in Photoshop are helpful and by going through all of them just a little at a time, it is frequently possible to build up to an optimum presentation. I put your very fine image on my own computer and (based on the date taken) adjusted the colors to be a bit more cold. That seemed to take the harshness away.
this is just a thought, of course. You are the complete judge of how your work presents.
Keep up the good work. You say you are new to this. Lots of practice and playtime will make you an expert in no time and I look forward to seeing more of your work. |
