it looks to be moreso 'discarded', and as i see it, discarded differs from abandoned in that discarded items contain no past, present or future value. this looks to be a newspaper in a plastic bag which holds no substantial value.
and while it may be on a set of steps in a state of minor disrepair, it does not constitute an overall image of abandoned to me.

that's definitely abandoned.
it's a bit dark in the upper left corner, but i doubt it would give any drastic change to the image if it had been fully lit.
i quite like this image for the challenge, i hope to see it do well
