Intriguing storytelling. I keep on looking at it so I take the liberty to throw my two cents.
The side by side B&W and color and unevenness of the grain is confusing and makes the picture to be sort of "in progress"; unfinished in its execution.
Perhaps a pale unifying layer over the whole image would help along with a burning of the lower middle section.
