Darius by NeatComment: I did not look at this challenge but saw this right now and loved it in the thumbnail and even more in a large format. It was worth the effort Anita. Great shot from all points of view. |

Cherish life in its diversity by gyabanComment: Your notes are very touching. Some of us live in these beautiful, harmonious bubble with babies looking in awe to the yet untainted world around them, and what a gift in life this is! Don't' let it be spoiled, don't let your heart harden; after all there are more good people in the world than the media could cover and no tv news hour will say: look, Christophe had a lovely morning with his baby in the garden!

Black Dogs Are Difficult To Photographby posthumousComment: Your black dogs sent me to the Now Culture, always interesting.
And yes, of course to Churchill's only that his black dogs were terrifying save for the moments of war when his mind was at its glorious peak.

oh dearby jmritzComment: John, all the people who left a comment are your fans. I wonder what other people think of your stuff or our appreciative comments. I mean, I wish they'll try to understand the ineffable quality of your work.
This serie does not work for me as wonderfully as each individual image does individually. I have my favorites where I stopped to catch my breath (empty year, if I could tell you…, the passion, I am brush strokes…) but the whole does not lead me anywhere. Must be the processing or my lack oƒ ignoring it. Take "the ache inside" for instance - it makes one shudder and it's not only from the knee pain! But in context, the noise does not belong to the collection.
Sometimes I think that you have an idea and a title prior to taking a photograph and it's only because you have all deeply ingrained in your mind.

Girlhood - 1by LevTComment: You never cease to captivate Lev! You make yourself invisible no matter how big the camera you're shlepping, no matter the country or the subject. Your stories are fabulous and I mean the stories that you can tell in one single shot. Chapeau! |

Oldies but Goodiesby herfotomanComment: Herman, your X-rays of the soul of theses people is a formidable endeavor.
I prefer to look at the pictures one after each because they have this spectacular quality of revealing the essence; we see the beauty behind the aged face, the pain of the all-smiles man, the diffidence of an old matron….
The slides, although really appealing are more predictable: this is what time does while the individual photographs get you behind the facade, no matter the ravages of time.
The first (and last image) with the man still searching for some meaning but totally at peace is haunting. Almost an El Greco. |

The Secrecy of Shadowsby instepsComment: What struck me looking at this photo narrative is that the "secrets" you captured are in permanent change. I feel as if you squinted as one does when one wants to see better a scene to remember it better, pushed the button and then you made a graphic representation of it as one makes a chart of an foreign land.
There is always a certain elegance in your photography that is undefinable. I feel that you walk very softly around your subject as to leave no marks and cast no shadows and only after a certain understanding of it you capture it on the camera.
Hope you already embarked on a new theme for next month! |

_1--by 2mccsComment: Marla, I do not understand your reaction to your own essay. Are you unhappy because you made an excellent documentary about a depressing place? Do photo essays need to be only happy and uplifting? Is not what you showed is a part of life?
Looking forward to your next essay. |
