Erected A.D. 1901by GeneralEComment: Greetings from the Critique Club!
I like the image for it's the lines and such but that's about it. Reading what you did to it afterwards explains the odd sense I got from looking at it more closely. I can see the difference in the shadows of the pillers, where you lightened one area but not others. If you had lightened all the shadows so they were the same it would have really helped balance out the overall image.
Also the cropping leaves me with too much too look at. It's a very busy shot and while sometimes this works with crowds and such, with a building shot I try to look for something specific to be drawn to in the shot. The name, the shape of the windows, something that makes the building special and stand out. Using my magic envelopes, if you had taken out more of the sky and just a slight tighter crop on the left would have really brought out the front of the building, making the pillars the center of attraction. Also, the Christmas lights are a bit distracting to the overall image. Again, some cloning would really sharpen the overall shot.
Hope you find these comments helpful and Good luck In future challenges!

Fujifilm.... what the pros useby I Enjoy HamComment: Greetings from the Critique Club!
I didn't get a chance to go through and vote on this challenge but I would have given this shot a 7 or 8 and here is why.
I like the sharpness on the front of the film container but the shadow from the actual film on the container is just slightly, ever so slightly distracting. Also the bottom of the container seems to be out of focus, just a touch. Clarity on the entire container would have really made this shot pop. I like the DOF otherwise, the out of focus background and the nice white backdrop, though the lower right corner and across the very bottom seems just a tad darker and again, ever so slightly distracting.
Otherwise this is a wonderful shot and I hope you found my observations helpful.
If you have any further questions, feel free to PM me! Good luck in future challenges!

Broken Mindby dalee18Comment: Greetings from the Critique Club!
A very powerful image in itself but it's missing that 'oomph' to put it over the top. I feel what you are going for, the dark emotion of losing something so precious but my thoughts are the windows to the soul are missing, the eyes. It almost looks like she is wearing sun glasses the way the shot is set up. If the head was completely down and the hair covering the face I wouldn't have looked so hard for it. There also seems to be some kind of spot or something on the end of her nose. And yes, my monitor is calibrated. The emotion is there when you first glance at this shot but then is lost as you try to look deeper into the image and see the lost look in her face. I like the overall tone, the light to dark from left to right, the touch of grain to add to the emotion. I hope this helps.
Good luck in future Challenges!

Runaway Breakfast (108512)by hopperComment: Hahaha, very cute. Love the fun people had with this one. This shot is close to perfect, the only thing I found about this one and the other was the distance from the hole in the shell to the footprints or if there should be partial prints on the shell indicating the little creature jumped or something. The same thing bothered me about the original. A 9 |
