Lazy Day Fishingby scalvertComment: Very creative indeed.
Excellent drawing ability, fun, good colors. The natural lighting works well, helps give a bit of a nature feel too it, I can almost imaging a tree further up the 'bank' offering the shading. Focus is great, just love the uniqueness of your approach. Image is crisp and clear. Well done. 7. |

Till the right momentby blancericComment: Fits the challenge and the composition in general is good, but the image is rather dull. The highest point of interest is the surfboard because it has that nice bright blue that pulls it out of the drab brown of the rest of the image. This may have been done purposefully, but if so, I'm afraid that the dullness of the surrounding environment really doesn't leave much interest to me the viewer. It looks like the sun may not have been cooperating with you much so the water and sky have no lovely blues to give, but maybe a polorizing filter would have helped a little?
The other suggestion I can offer to give this image a bit more pop, would be to desaturate it completely except for the blue of the surfboard. That would give it a nice uniformish background purposefully and fully highlight the board and thus the person sitting on it too, while adding some nice interest due to the method used. Just some ideas. I gave it a 4. |

The good and quiet timesby hjolliComment: Interesting idea. I can see that the subject is playing cards.. I think? So it does fit the challenge. I think the use of the candle as the only light source did the image a disservice however because nearly all detail is lost in the shadow. I'm not good with using low light (it looks as if it was used to give a more intimate feel?) so I don't have any suggestions on what to do differently and keep the feeling you're looking for. The lack of lighting makes it difficult to see other aspects that may be excellently done. The composition looks as though it might be good and the idea works. The lighting just needs a bit more work. Sorry to harp on that! I gave the image a 3 since I couldn't really see much of what was going on. |

Siestaby ImagineerComment: I think this is a gorgeous photo. The natural light really brings out the color of the building, the matching windows give a very nice congruency. I love the human interest and that little pigeon on the ledge just gives a bit of whimsy.
Excellent focus, composition is great. Very well done.
I absolutely adore the color and tone, I think its the best part of the image, it feels so alive and fresh. The only thing I'd say that would improve the image would be to crop it at the top, the sky/roof is simple unnecessary in my view. All the action is where the windows are so I think from those slats across the top for the roof, up is dead weight.
The title kind of takes away from meeting the challenge since the lady doesn't seem to be taking a siesta and she's where my eyes go first, though it could be in reference to the pigeon. The photo though certainly meets the challenge so all is well. All in all though this is an excellent capture. I gave it an 8 |

Stargazersby JoziComment: Lucky kid! I wish I had a telescope myself, great hobby.
The photograph has some wonderful aspects to it as well as filling the challenge. I like the 'dad helping child' sentiment to it as well as the instant feeling of wonder I get when I put myself in the photo and think about looking through a telescope. So the idea and emotion of the image are great!
There are a few technical issues with the photograph that could use a little work. The main one is lighting. There is a odd tone to the image that I see often when I'm doing pictures indoors myself, that may come from insufficient light. The focus is also rather soft, this could relate to the lighting issue as well.
I gave this photo a 4 because there is quite a bit of potential to it, just a few technical aspects that need work. I really like the emotion tied to it. |

Free Climbby NovaTigerComment: That looks like an interesting way to spend some time.
The idea fits the challenge perfectly and it is out of the norm which I like. There are some great colors shown what with the cords and bucket and knobs, but they don't quite pop. There is also a bit of a haze to the image, which I've noticed in some of my photos using natural light. Maybe a polorizing filter would help cut down some of that and add a richness to the colors given, especially the blue of the sky.
The composition is pretty good, but I think a more intimate focus, perhaps closer in so you can see the strain or indecision on just one of the men, tighter on the equipment to really close out the portions of the image that aren't needed like the trees might give the photograph a little more strength. Just a thought. Overall I do like its originality and the colors that are present. Looks hard but fun! I gave a 5. |

Winning the Addiction: Just a Faded Memory...by tfarrell23Comment: I like the statement the photograph and title make. The image is clean and simple and the border ties it all together nicely, but the image in general, as two faded dice, doesn't hold my interest long.
With the title of the photo as a guide, the idea of the image is iffy to me on 'passing time' but the gambling tie does work so its a moot point. Technique is good, but subject is a little soft on interest in my humble opinion. Gave a 5. |

Watching the fish......relaxing hobbyby suemackComment: I like the idea behind this image, but there are a few things that I think might help make it better. The focus is on the cat and some great detail can be seen, but that makes the details of the fish, which are also part of the focus of the image (per the title) unaccessable.
The colors look rich and beautiful, but without the focus they are lost as a haze. Perhaps lighting from above or the side of the aquarium might have helped instead of/or in tandem with the one from behind the cat.
Great idea, all of the necessary points of interest are there, just need to bring some more focus in to let the fish and items in the aquarium add their details. I gave a 4. |

People Watchingby kerrilynComment: Nice capture. Fits the challenge and has some interesting aspects. I like the drama of the architecture and the action of the photo with the people walking around.
The tone is nice, but I find the extreme darks and the blown out lights from the windows to be a bit too overpowering. Details appear to be lost in the image because of this and I think those details would help make the image even better.
A little more light in the image would add to the idea of watching people as you'd be able to see a few more details of the people being shown. Overall its a great idea and the composition is nice, it just needs a little more light. I gave a 5. |

Y Chromosomeby glad2badadComment: Interesting photo!
Black & White really works well here. I think its a good choice as it seems to blot out anything that might be distracting and focuses on the action of the image.
Focus is excellent as is the composition in general. Border is unobtrusive and works very nicely. Fits the challenge perfectly.
My only complaint is the blown out whites of the snow, on the knife and the stick. The snow isn't too bad as it kind of gives a background and isn't hugely noticeable, but the knife and the point of the stick lose detail with the shine of the light on them and that detracts a bit from the image.
Overall however it is a strong photograph and I like it very much. I gave it a 7 despite the white issue. |
