Angelby Marc923Comment: I like this. Maybe I would like it better if you did the border a little different since the white line disappears at the top of the photo. |

Stormy at the Topby jbsmithanaComment: I love this. Beautiful to look at, the only thing distracting for me is the dark cloud in the upper left. For some reason my eyes keep getting drawn to it. Still a 9 for me. |

Full moon risingby MinsoPhotoComment: Originally posted by MelonMusketeer: Looking at your shooting info, iso100, .5sec @ f4.5? The moon looks like maybe iso 100 1/500sec f 4.5. At the settings that you posted, the moon would be overexposed, unless you were using a neutral density filter.
The dark halo may be from using too much highlight reduction. That happens with my shots too, and I have learned to watch for it when processing images.
To get better overall sharpness for a moon shot with foreground, a much smaller aperture value, like f16 would be helpful. That would increase the depth of field, which is pretty narrow with a 300mm at f4.5.
Welcome to DPC. I have learned a lot about shooting here, and I hope you enjoy the site as much as I have. |
Thank you for the advice. I will have to give it another shot with the settings you suggested. This was my first outing shooting the moon and I never realized how bright it really is. Thank you for the comment. I was not using a ND filter (don't have one but that will be my next purchase to shoot the waterfalls around here) |
