But wasn't the book about a guy getting tortured? Yeah, maybe he was a runner, but really, the book wasn't about marathons.
A diamond, or a tooth being drilled into.. Hell, even a bottle of clove oil. But this? Dunno, not much here to compel me.
Nice image though, so you get a 5 | Photographer found comment helpful. |

The fit to the novel is... tenuous. Sure, it's about saving people, and I guess this might kinda sorta convey that a touch, but really, for me, it misses the mark and falls into the pun/over literal category.
Still, beautiful light, and a very nice portrait.

| 10/21/2013 06:51:44 PM | The Snows of Kilimanjaro, by Ernest Hemingwayby hahn23Comment: Beautiful image... We're starting at 5 here because it's perfect as far as technicals go.
Now, the next 5 are based on fit. .. First, this isn't a classic novel, but rather a classic story. Ok. -1...
Now... The story is about a dying man, in Africa on safari... The mountain only comes in at the end, and he's on top of it.. Hmm.. You've got a mountain, and it did at least play in, but you're not on top of it, seeing the view I would expect the character in the novel to experience.
Out of the four possible points remaining, I can't see but to award a single point. It is a mountain, there was a mountain in the book.
It almost pains me, but this beautiful image is a 6 in this challenge. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 10/21/2013 06:50:52 PM | A Bend in the Riverby moondogComment: Hmm. Literal - over-literal perhaps.
In any case, the book was about way more than a river's bend, but it did start with a shop on one. Processing here is a bit harsh feeling.

The image itself is really quite good, maybe a tad overdone, but really beautiful..
A fly fisherman in waders here would have compelled me to give you a score of 8+, but as it is, I'm left with a desire for what this could have been, rather than a love for what it is.

| 10/21/2013 06:49:28 PM | The Postman Always Rings Twiceby LinMalAngComment: So... The novel has a postman nowhere in it, and it's just a non-sequitur.. How do I judge this?
Are you being cheeky, or did you simply choose a picture and find a title?...
How to know... Ambiguity is never my strong point - so I just have to go kinda middle of road on applicability.
As for photographic merit - it's not bad - keystoning bothers me some, and I think you could have pulled the highlights and shadows a bit.. But other than those small technical issues, I think you've captured quite a nice scene with real interest.
So, kinda upper-middle for the image itself..

Actually the image isn't great, I think the composition leaves something to be desired, but it's not bad either.
Fits the novel well, and I think you deserve a 6. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 10/21/2013 06:48:55 PM | The Call of the Wildby skewsmeComment: Fascinating creature. Is it an albino?
I suppose this does evoke the wilds of Alaska, and the white color makes me think of the companion novel "White Fang"....
Composition here isn't bad, but the detail isn't as solid as I would like either - there are too-sharp bits, and too-soft bits. A bit of selective sharpening would have done much for this image.
Anyway. Nice job. 6 | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 10/21/2013 06:48:47 PM | Wuthering Heightsby wdammanComment: Sorta gets the right feeling, that unexpected, but almost tangible evil in the air.
Overall I don't really care for the processing (too soft) or the composition, but I think it fits well enough to merit a 6. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
