This is a photo I took of my girlfriend, who is a teacher. Her favourite novel is Catcher in the Rye because she feels the same as Holden Caulfield when he says that he wants to be the catcher in the rye, looking out for the well being of children, because it serves a real purpose in a world that is otherwise so often phony/trivial. This is a photo of her in a 'rye' so to speak.

I like the lighting on the subject and the silly pun, despite the cataclysmic explosion of the sun on the right side of the frame.

Play on words...get it.

I like the golden look on the right side.
The one major detractor for me is the light spot on her neck. Everytime I look at the image, that is what always catches my attention. Also, her right shoulder is illuminated with her face, but there is not light on her front side. My brain tells me that this is not natural :) The sun is on the backside of her, so obviously you used fill light, but it only hit spots and that takes away from the image.

Gave it a 4

overall a nice scene with good composition and just enough light on the model
a 7 from me

Hmmmmm, not sure if something was lost in translation, or if this is an intentional pun on the title. A beautiful portrait, and delicious light

Love the flare on her throat.

Well, it's a nice pun :-) Technically the image is pretty accomplished, though I'm seeing an odd disconnect between face color/tones and the rest of her skin that really bothers me.

In the end, it doesn't connect for me. I need more, at some level. 5.

6...it's a nice senior portrait.

Amazingly beautiful image, really nice portrait, and great lighting.

The fit to the novel is... tenuous. Sure, it's about saving people, and I guess this might kinda sorta convey that a touch, but really, for me, it misses the mark and falls into the pun/over literal category.

Still, beautiful light, and a very nice portrait.

Your shoehorn title made me smile. The image is very beautiful and I would have scored this higher in a free study 5.

But wait! Before I actually hit the score button I decided to google your title just in case I was wrong in assume it was a play on the well known classic ‘Catcher in the Rye’ and their in Goodreads is your quoted book by Wodke Hawkinson and Dmitry Raykin. So it is not, IMO, a complete DNMC but only a slight shoe horn (what is considered a classic can be subjective but this book may be a bit of a stretch). 7.

she's waiting so not much to "catch"
the light on the face even though needed it goes against the natural flow 6

Wodke Hawkinson's pun in the sun, I wonder how many get confused with this one. I like how the flare looks like a jewel around her neck. An odd expression on her face though, sort of caught in between emotions or trying not to smile. Lovely dress ;) 5.

No pun intended eh? Hard to say she is inspired by the novel of similar name. Photographically, as a portrait the lighting effects dominate and distract from her face and those pearls. The result is harsh and not very appealing. 5

lovely photo, fabulous light, and not a bad pun. 6

Nice enough pic but otherwise a tremendous shoehorn.

The girl sort of fits the story, but it seems like a reach. A pun on the title still, and a quite nice shot. Would have rated it higher in a different challenge. 6

Nice glow to the sun.
Good detail on the necklace and dress/shirt... but my eyes are drawn to her necklace, rather than her.
And I'm just not feeling the "play on words" with the title. Gave it a 4

Lovely tonality and lovely processing here. As to the subject of it, I am not sure of where to place this shot other than in a file with excellent family pics. Lovely memories.
You just alluded to the novel which is better than illustrating a title
I give it 6 for its qualities but unfortunately this photo is not telling me much

Wonderfully creative take on the title. I like it, hope you're not getting dinged for it by the literalists! Such a beautiful portrait! Love the tones and light, and even the flare/reflection on her neck! Wish the eyes were a little more sharp and prominent (a little fill light/reflector), but overall a lovely portrait! (Upping my previous vote)

Lovely portrait with sun flare and great contre jour lighting, although the lighting on her face is too clear/sharp and undoes some of the magic. I like that you turned the novel title into a pun. The composition is competent but doesn't excite me. 5
