Snow White

Comment:
I don't think you've managed it.. This comes off as completely unconnected - it's as if you simply shot a picture on the street, then randomly chose a novel (fairy tale actually, not at all a novel), and put that in as a title.

For me this fails on all levels. I don't find it to even be a particularly compelling street shot.

Wow. And not in a good way. This might have been a good image, but your processing murdered it, violently.

Doesn't really fit the novel either.

Brave New World - Aldous Huxley

Comment:
This image would have been much more suited to "The Lost World"... As it is, it's entirely unconnected to the chosen novel. What a shame..

It's a lovely image, but without the critical measure of meeting the challenge, I'm afraid I cannot but give this a 4 - which is entirely for the eyecandy.

Bumped to a 5

That's not Wendy.... Oh .. Yeah. Ayn Rand... Hmm. Probably not her either.

Seriously though, the book wasn't about fast food workers.

darkness at noon

Comment:
Fascinating image. Can't connect it at all to the novel. Oh, unless you just simply saw the word dark in the title and thought "Gee, this is dark"..

Really, the book was about trials and prison, etc. This doesn't speak to that.

4 - because it IS a wonderful image.

Flowers for Algernon

Flowers for Algernon
by flaherma

Comment:
Initial Reaction: Dark, not sure about match to book
Suitability for Challenge Topic: Not familiar with the book, but it seems that the flowers were on a grave, and Algernon was a mouse. I don't see how this ties in, other than the fact that there is a flower here.
Aesthetic: Reasonable composition, not as much fine detail as I would prefer (soft) A bit dark for my taste, but the highlight on the scissors does complicate this.
Needs Work: Sharpness, concept
Final Thoughts: While not a terrible image, also not terribly compelling.
Score: 5

A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man

Comment:
Well. He looks way more Amish than Irish.

But it's a reasonable portrait, and kinda fits the book. No real story here to compel me, but it's not bad.

With that being said? It's not a great portrait. I'll give a 6, but it's really more of a 5.5 for me.

Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt

Angela's Ashes by Frank McCourt

Comment:
Initial Reaction: An interesting old building entrance, unsure of book.
Suitability for Challenge Topic: Wiki tells me this is a book about poverty, and while this does appear more commercial than residential, I think it fits, at least to a point. Nothing here really compels me.
Aesthetic: A bit too high contrast for me, while still not really making anything go 'pop'.. Perspective is really quite off, and needs correcting.
Needs Work: Perspective, concept
Final Thoughts: Not bad, but it doesn't really have the impact I would want for this book.
Score: 5

Keep the aspidistra flying - George Orwell (1936)
by hajeka

Comment:
Heh... Quite literal, but in the case of this book, it rather works, as the aspidistra in the book serves as a metaphor for acceptance of what life brings.

I can't give huge points, partially because I don't find the image SUPER attractive (although, admittedly, it is pretty good), and because I fail to really get as much out of this as I would hope, perhaps if there was more context..

Anyway .. 5..

Slaughterhouse-Five

Comment:
So... I like this image - overall it strikes me as having a mysterious quality.

What it doesn't do for me is convey that novel, the horror, the war, the soldiers, this doesn't even strike me as a slaughterhouse.

:( And there seems to be some pretty strong banding in the grain/noise.

In any case, it's a 5 because it almost sorta fits, but just misses the mark - but yet is still a rather interesting image.
