Lights Are On, But Nobody's Home (Conch; Mollusca; natural color)by mefnjComment: I love the repeating shapes and points of this and the orange backlight illumination which warms the shell against the black background. The light dances on the upper right curves and rims and the patterns are liquid and beautiful. Superb capture, a definite favourite. |

Tree frog on flowerby zaroziniaComment: He seems such a pleasant fellow with his small but knowing smile. The golden yellow of the flower is subtly reflected in his skin and in the mottled golds he has naturally. Delightful nature macro. |

Fringesby androgeusComment: The backlight illuminates the delicate edgings of this autumn leaf quite beautifully and brings out the holes and vein patterns. The green background sharpens focus on the subject yet it also reminds that summer was not so long ago really and that changes can come swiftly. I like the central placement which allows the stem stalk to echo and branch out like the original tree. |

Eye Viewby karenkComment: Very nice photograph of the horse in which can be seen the patterns of the shaded hairs and coat. The dark eye is crisp and the diagona shape stands out in the composition leading one to study it and perhaps muse about what this intelligent animal may be thinking. The downward comb of the left side mane is echoed by the darker forehead mane which disturbs the horizontal coat lines which adds to the interest. Black and white simplifies this and concentrates it at the same time. Superb macro. |

All seeing eyeby tchaikComment: Beautifully sharp eye centre with the iris reflection - the patterns and colours of the cornea are exquisite and the lens capture so intricate that the blood vessels feeding nutriments can be seen. The lash cilia are sharp and you can see the creases in the facial epidermis as well. Superb capture. |

Fisheyeby CamabsComment: The repeating eye circles contrast nicely with silver and speckles of the rest of this fish. The first colour noticed is the rich gold which then invites closer study of the black centre clouded over by Death. A marvellous example of the intricate design of Nature in this most beautiful creature. |

Thornsby tamatamaComment: Very Sharp Photograph - I like how the individual cacti thorn clusters repeat and the duochromatic black and white colour scheme brings this into crisp focus. |

Joyeux Noelby kleskiComment: Nollaig Shona Dhuit to you and all as well. Very nice how the tree and decorations are reflected in the ornament itself. |

Hermit Crabby ladpupmoeComment: Like the repeating body and claw curves of this little fellow dragging his house behind him - he fits into it quite tightly. The textures on the crustacean and the shell are crisp and well done as are the bits of sand still clinging to the critter and his shell. The eyestalks are determinedly pointed in the way he wishes to go and the Plan to get there is on. Great shot. |
